England played their last one-day international game against the same opposition earlier during the series. They won the match with relative ease with a margin of 48 runs. Surprisingly, the Irish team made a game effort to chase down this target and got reasonably close to it. But they were never in contention for winning the game.

The England team while batting first got off to a good start thanks to the efforts of Will Jacks and Phil Salt. These two added 55 runs for the first wicket from 6.1 overs. Phil Salt was dismissed for 28 runs from 21 balls with 6 fours. The English skipper Zak Crawley fell early without opening his account for naught. But Ben Duckett provided excellent support to Will Jacks with a 48 from 49 balls with 6 fours and 1 six.

But it was another terrific inning from Sam Hain that took the English total to an imposing one. He hit 89 runs from 82 balls with 8 fours. Brydon Carse played a good hand lower down the order scoring 32 runs from 30 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. George Dockrell was the best bowler for Ireland picking up 3 wickets for 43 runs from 8 overs. Craig Young was the second most effective bowler for Ireland getting 2 wickets for 38 runs from 7 overs. Some other bowlers that succeeded in picking up a wicket were Mark Adair, Josh Little, and Barry McCarthy who picked up a wicket apiece but were expensive.

Despite a decent start from Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, the Irish team was never in contention for a successful run chase. They got close to the target thanks to the efforts putting in a spirited display lower down the order. George Dockrell scored 43 runs from 54 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. However, this Irish innings was provided impetus by the likes of Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, and Josh Little who put together scores of 41, 40, and 29 runs respectively. Harry Tector also played a useful hand in the middle order with 39 runs from 40 balls.
