WS vs SES Team Previews

Western Storm

The Western Storm team played their last game in the competition against Thunder in Cardiff yesterday. They won this encounter fairly easily with 6 wickets and 51 balls to spare. The Ireland international star Orla Prendergast hit a century on debut to propel the Western Storm team to a solid win over the Thunder. After joining the team just 48 hours ago she was involved in a 186 runs stand with Fran Wilson. Orla Prendergast scored a career-best 115 runs and was involved in a big partnership with Fran Wilson who scored 74 runs from 100 balls.

Western Storm managed to chase down the target of 215 runs with 51 balls to spare. For Thunder, the pick of the bowlers was Mahika Gaur. She picked up 3 victims for Thunder. In reality, Thunder made a good start to their inning but the Storm bowlers kept their heads as Chloe Skelton took the wickets of the set batters Dottin and Lamb. She returned with the figures of 3 for 36. Other bowlers such as Lauren Filer and Dani Gibson picked up 2 wickets each. The middle order and lower middle order could not contribute much for the Thunder as they ended up scoring 214 runs.

The Storm opening bowlers were bowling tight lines in the match in the beginning. They were in a good position at 160 for 3 in the 29th over. But they lost the momentum and a lot of wickets fell after that. They ended up losing 7 wickets in the last 14 overs of the innings for the addition of 54 runs. The Storm bowling attack received the encouragement they were looking for after these wickets started falling and they turned the screws. Prendergast played a terrific inning taking some calculated risks and taking the aerial route occasionally as well.

South East Stars

Lauren Bell picked up 4 wickets for 37 runs for Southern Vipers as they fairly routed the South East Stars by a huge margin of 158 runs in their last game. Bell was on a hattrick twice in the South East Stars inning as she vanquished the top order of the Stars outfit. Vipers put up a good score on the board in this game in batting-friendly conditions. Stars used as many as 9 bowlers. Alice Davidson-Richards returned with the best figures for the Stars picking a couple of wickets for 30 runs. However, the game was a nightmare for the hosts in this 131-run loss.

There was a big partnership for the first wicket when the Vipers batted. But Paige Scholfield managed to break the partnership when she bowled Bouchier and she also picked up Scholfield caught in the covers area. Davidson-Richards was the 9th bowler to be used by the Stars. However, she picked up a wicket in her first over when she got rid of Danni Wyatt caught in the backward point region by MacDonald Gay when she was on 22. This was the closest the Vipers came to a collapse when they were 170 for 3 at this stage.

Stars made a decent start to the chase moving to 26 runs without dropping a wicket. But Bell got into the act picking up consecutive wickets. The Stars' middle order was listless and even though Scholfield and Farrant hung around for some time, Scholfield was clean bowled by Adams when she was on 31 runs. After this, Dean mopped up the South East Stars tail. First, she deceived Farrant in flight with the ball hitting the leg stump. Next, she picked up Alexa Stonehouse getting her caught by Adams for zero. The end was near for South East Stars by this time.

South East Stars Playing 11

Alexa Stonehouse, Alice Capsey, Danielle Gregory, Jemima Spence, Kira Chathli, Phoebe Franklin, Ryana Macdonald, Bryony Smith, Alice Richards, Paige Scholfield, Tash Farrant.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The highest score recorded at this venue in one-day matches is 373 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Most teams while batting first at this venue score in the region of 200 to 250 runs. This is easily one of the better grounds in England for batters. There will be no help to any kind of bowlers from this surface. Batters can trust the bounce of the track and there will not be any demons for the batswomen. The short boundaries and quick outfield also work in favor of batters. Sometimes even the mistimed strokes also clear the boundaries here.

There are some showers predicted during this game in Bristol. You can expect temperatures in the region of 18 degrees for this match. There will be periods of sunshine and clouds during the game. This might assist the quick bowlers. Players can expect some perspiration to occur during the game.

WS vs SES Betting Tips

Both teams have gotten off to their campaign on a shaky note. They have won one game and lost the other. South East Stars have collected 5 points so far from 2 games while Western Storms have 4 from 2 games. Western Storm looked good in their last match. But we expect South East Stars to win this game and improve their position in the points tally.
