SV vs WS Team Previews

Southern Vipers

The Southern Vipers defeated Central Sparks in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, with Georgia Adams leading the way for the Vipers. Adams took 4 for 30 in the Sparks' innings and then scored a composed 50 off 71 balls during the Vipers' chase. Her first wicket came when she accepted a return catch from Abbey Freeborn, who had built solid partnerships with both Ami Campbell and Eve Jones. Adams also bowled the dangerous Issy Wong second ball, before collecting the final wicket of Campbell with a smart catch from Linsey Smith.

The Vipers had a shaky start to their chase, losing early wickets and being reduced to 46 for 4 in the 15th over. However, Adams and Charlie Dean anchored the innings with a partnership of 105 runs in 19 overs, taking their team to the brink of victory. Although both players were eventually dismissed, Emily Windsor and Rhianna Southby saw the Vipers home with 49 balls to spare.

The win was a solid team effort from the Vipers, with several players making valuable contributions. In addition to Adams and Dean, Charlie Dean took two wickets and both Emily Windsor and Rhianna Southby played important innings towards the end of the chase. The Vipers will be pleased with their second consecutive victory in the tournament.

Western Storm

Western Storm claimed a six-wicket victory against Thunder in their sixth match of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy on April 29, 2023. It was a successful debut for Orla Prendergast, the Ireland international, who posted 115 runs in 115 balls, including 11 fours and a six. Prendergast shared in a third-wicket stand of 186 with Fran Wilson, who remained unbeaten on 74. They were able to chase down the target of 215 with 51 balls remaining. Thunder's bowlers failed to prevent the onslaught, with Mahika Gaur the pick of the bunch with 3 for 39 from her allotted overs.

Earlier, Thunder won the toss and elected to bat, but their middle and lower order crumbled against Storm's bowlers, with Chloe Skelton accounting for Emma Lamb and Deandra Dottin in an incisive return of 3 for 36. Dani Gibson and Lauren Filer claimed two wickets apiece, and Thunder was bowled out for an inadequate 214 in 44.4 overs.

The match was held at Sophia Gardens, where Lamb posted a notable half-century in a T20 match against Storm two seasons ago. Lamb top-scored for Thunder with 74, while Dottin contributed a hard-hitting 41. However, they both fell to Skelton, and the visitors were soon in trouble.

Heavily defeated by reigning champions Northern Diamonds at Headingley in their opening fixture, Western Storm summoned the perfect response. Thunder, on the other hand, are still looking for their first win. Lamb, who is hoping to stake a claim for a place in the England team for this summer's upcoming Ashes series against Australia, was determined to make a good impression. But she found the going predictably tough against Storm's bowlers, who made the England international play and miss on several occasions.

Overall, it was a convincing win for the Western Storm, who showed their resilience after a disappointing start to the tournament. Meanwhile, Thunder will be looking to regroup and come back stronger in their next match.
