CES vs SV Team Previews

Central Sparks

The Central Sparks team played their last game against Northern Diamonds yesterday in Worcester. They registered an easy win in the game by a margin of 7 wickets. The Central Sparks team has got their season up and running with a solid win over Northern Diamonds in their last encounter. This was the first defeat Diamonds had to face after they provided a dominant display in their last match. This encounter was led by Georgia Davis who led the spin bowling performance and skipper Eve Jones dominated the opposition bowling with the bat.

Lauren Hill did a good job for the Diamonds scoring 42 runs from 40 deliveries. But later on in the inning, Davies went through the lower middle order with 7 wickets falling for just 40 runs. The Central Sparks team then chased the target easily with 70 balls to spare. The captain Eve Jones scored an unbeaten 67 and she was aided in her efforts by Abbey Freeborn who scored 37 runs. These two added 98 runs for the second wicket and broke the back of Diamonds' bowling attack. The skipper ensured that she was present at the crease till the end of the chase.

The Central Sparks' reply to the Diamonds total was disrupted early by Jessica Woolston when she removed Chloe Brewer early in the inning in the 4th over. However, Freeborn and Jones rebuilt their innings diligently. These two put on the half-century of their team in the 12th over of the innings and the hundred came up in the 24th over. Freeborn lost her wicket after this good partnership with a run-out. But all the hopes Diamonds had of making a comeback in the match were dashed by Davina Perrin with a stylish cameo of 30 from 51 balls.

Southern Vipers

Southern Vipers played their last game of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy against South East Stars yesterday in Beckenham. They also won this game with ease with a margin of 158 runs. The Southern Vipers' bowling attack routed the South East Stars batting with Lauren Bell leading the bowling charge picking up 4 wickets for 37 runs. She was on a hat trick twice and got rid of the Stars' top order efficiently. Another bowler from Southern Vipers came to the forefront, picking up 3 wickets for 18 runs to bowl out the game hosts for a paltry total of 129 runs.

Before that, the Vipers' openers got their team off to a terrific start hitting 117 runs for the opening wicket. Maia Bouchier scored 59 runs while Ella McCaughan put together 67 runs for the opening wicket. Later on in the innings, Georgia Elwiss came in to score 59 runs not out to set a stiff target of 287 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Stars were going into this game with a series of losses in their last six encounters. Any hopes they had of reversing the fortunes were quickly dashed when their innings started.

Batting first, the Southern Vipers took advantage of a benign wicket and a below-par bowling performance from Stars bowlers. The Stars' bowling attack gave away 27 wides and this offered little hope for the home team. Both the Vipers batters that did well were dropped during their innings. The Vipers team was on 170 for 3 at one time but that was the closest they came to shaking. This was followed by Adams and Elwiss putting up a stand of 76 runs. The Stars team made a confident start to their chase with 26 runs on the board for the first wicket. However, they lost their way after that.
