South Australia Redbacks

The South Australians played their last game of the competition for the 2023-24 season against Tasmania. This was the first match of the season and was played in Adelaide as well. Tasmania handed a 7-wicket defeat to South Australia in this match. The South Australians managed to score 307 runs in their first innings. The visitors Tasmania replied with a total of 381 runs. On the third day of the game when South Australia resumed their innings, they were already in trouble at 47 for 3. Any hopes they had harbored for setting a good target for Tasmanians vanished early on the third day.

The South Australian second innings in this game was anchored by McSweeny. He struck 8 fours while making 48 runs from 97 balls before edging a delivery to the keeper. The South Australians managed to set a decent target for Tasmania in their first innings thanks to a super hundred by their skipper Jake Lehmann. Lehmann hit 115 runs from 143 balls with 18 fours. Ben Manenti played a useful hand lower down the order scoring 71 runs from 60 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Jake Lehmann was appointed the skipper of the South Australian side as Travis Head is away on national duties.

South Australians were immediately in trouble in their second innings when they were reduced to 19 for 4 in a period of 9 overs. Lehmann hit a fifty during his 7th wicket partnership with Manenti in the first innings. This pair put together 104 runs for the 7th wicket with the Manenti innings being a rapid-fire fifty. Lehmann received valuable support from the South Australian tailenders. This hundred was the second hundred in a row in Sheffield Shield matches for Lehmann. His earlier century came against New South Wales.

The South Australians will be looking at batters such as Henry Hunt, Kelvin Smith, and Nathan McSweeney to do the bulk of run-scoring in this game together with their skipper Jake Lehmann. Ben Manenti and Jake Fraser McGurk also played useful hands in the lower middle order in their last game. Jordan Buckingham was the pick of the bowlers for South Australia in the game against Tasmania. He picked up a haul of 7 wickets in their first effort in the field for 71 runs. He was well supported by Brendan Doggett who picked up 3 wickets. You can expect these two bowlers to lead the bowling charge for South Australians in this game as well.

New South Wales

In the second match of the season, Queensland took on New South Wales in Sydney. The New South Wales team succeeded in drawing this game. They were in charge of the game when they picked up a healthy first innings lead against Queensland. But some spirited batting by the Queenslander saw the NSW being deprived of a sure victory. Jack Edwards was declared player of the match for his 7 wickets in the game together with a healthy contribution of 87 runs during the NSW innings.

The New South Wales bowling attack during the game was depleted as Hayden Kerr was not fit enough to bowl in the second innings after lunch. Jack Edwards was not fully fit either for NSW due to back and heel soreness. Jack Edwards was mainly responsible for putting the New South Wales team in charge with a super contribution with both bat and ball. First, he picked up a 6-wicket haul to skittle the opposition for 176 runs in their first innings. Then he went on to score 87 runs and contributed to the excellent total of 446 runs from NSW in their first innings.

Batting second on this track, NSW tail contributed to the team's cause to take their score up to 446 runs to achieve a lead of 270 runs. At the end of day 3 Queensland were 173 for 5 in their second innings. They were rocked thanks to the 3 quick wickets picked up by Chris Tremain earlier. Tremain sent significant batters such as Joe Burns, Jack Clayton, and Usman Khawaja packing to reduce the Queenslanders to a score of 59 for 4. Queensland further slumped to 91 for 5 before the test hopeful Matt Renshaw started counter-punching.

The New South Wales batting will rely on the likes of Daniel Hughes, Ryan Hackney, Kurtis Patterson, Jack Edwards, and Moises Henriques to do the bulk of scoring for them. All these batters looked good in their last game against Queensland. Chris Green and Hayden Kerr also played superbly lower down the order to hit the fifties and take the NSW total to a good one. The NSW bowling attack will be manned by Jack Edwards, Jackson Bird, Chris Tremain, and Chris Green again in this encounter.

SAC vs NSW Toss Prediction

The surface on offer at the Adelaide Oval has usually offered help to the batters over the years. It is a high-scoring venue and both spinners and pacers can get assistance from the track. You can expect the skipper to win the toss to bat first and put an imposing total on the board. It also means that the team batting 4th will have to face the bowling on a wearing track.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

Generally speaking, this venue in Australia is envisaged to be the best batting surface in Australia. It will remain flat for the first 3 days of the game and with the game wearing on it brings spinners into the picture. Most 4- or 5-day games played at this venue have been won by the sides that opted to bat first after winning the toss. The average first innings score at the venue is close to 380 runs.

We are likely to get patchy weather during this game on the first day. There is a possibility of getting some showers throughout the day. The temperatures will vary between 13 degrees and 16 degrees with a wind gust of between 14 and 19 km/hr. It is almost certain that we will get a cloud cover during the game which will be helpful to the speedsters. The weather is likely to clear up by Tuesday and we will get sunny and clear skies after that.

SAC vs NSW Betting Tips

Although there is not too much to choose between these two teams, New South Wales made a good start to their campaign and nearly won their first game of the competition. But South Australians are playing at home so they can get more crowd support. But all-in-all we expect NSW to win this game.
