RSA vs AUS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 15, 2023
It was bound to happen eventually, right? South Africa finally got one ODI victory against Australia in this tour, after losing the first two games and the previous three T20I matches. South Africa was suburb in the 111-run win over Australia, thanks largely to Markram’s 102 runs and great bowling from Coetzee with 4/50.
South Africa vs. Australia (4th ODI) will take place at the SuperSport Park, Centurion, on September 15th.
RSA vs AUS Team Previews
South Africa
This time around, Australia made the wrong choice when they won the toss and chose to bowl first. It was great to see South Africa finally play a match with fantastic batting and bowling, as they stormed out of the gates with a convincing 338-run effort. Markram’s century was much needed, but there were also comeback performances from de Kock (82 runs), Bavuma (57), and Hendricks (39). Bavuma still remains the biggest batting threat, with 637 runs in his last 9 games and no score lower than 46 in the ODIs.
The bowling really confused the Aussies, especially the spin attack of Shamsi (2/29) and Maharaj (2/37) on a pitch where there was considerable turn. It wasn’t all the spinners, however, as pace bowler Coetzee also took 4/50. In fact, Australia somehow lost 9 wickets for only 87 runs, which goes to show how effective the South African bowlers were.
South Africa Playing 11
Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi.
Australia
Although the Aussies started out well enough in the second innings with Warner (78) and Head (38), things quickly unravelled and the rest of the batting order just couldn’t keep it together. The middle order of Labuschagne, Carey, Stoinis, and David combined for just 45 runs. Labuschagne’s 15 runs was a surprise, as he was on fire recently with 124 & 80* in his previous two games.
The Aussies will need more from Carey (highest score is 12 in the ODIs) and Stoinis (just 10 & 17 in two games), as they can’t just rely on their top-order batters to always get them through the match. Carey is pretty safe being the wicketkeeper, but Stoinis’ spot is up for grabs, as there are plenty of talented batters worthy of a place in the ODI team.
On a pitch where spin was useful, the Aussies only had one spinner in this game: Sangha (fairly disappointing with 1/64). Both Agar and Zampa were not included in this game, but it was also shocking to see Hazlewood get destroyed with 0/74 after 9 overs.
Australia Playing 11
Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, Timothy David, Michael Neser, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.
RSA vs AUS Toss Prediction
Any team winning the toss would love to bowl first because of the conditions, but the records also support this, as 31/55 ODI wins have been to the team bowling first.

Pitch and Conditions
Pace bowlers are especially effective on this Centurion pitch, so world-class bowlers like Hazlewood and Abbott will be in their element here. There is always a lot of bounce and movement, so batters can find it tough and daunting. The weather is going to make the pitch even dryer with a temperature of 29°C.
RSA vs AUS Betting Tips
The Aussies shouldn’t be too worried, as they have won 10 out of their last 12 ODI matches and have easily looked the better team against South Africa. After the recent victory, the Parimatch odds are lower for South Africa to win, but we’re happy to switch back to Australia for this game. The odds are decent for an Aussie victory, although you’ll probably get more money with the prop bets below. Australia should regroup well enough and we’ll see improved batting and bowling. South Africa will play well again and this game is going to be the closest so far, but the Aussies are the one to pick.
Bet on Australia to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Bavuma is not one to bet against in this match, as he's in form at the moment and is arguably the best ODI batter that South Africa has had for a long time. His recent scores of 114*, 46, and 57 display a batter who is aggressive and skilled, so it's a safe bet that he can get a 50 here.
Although he did pick up a duck in the first ODI, Warner has been playing brilliantly since then and is back to his old form. The last two games have been scores of 106 and 78, and if anyone likes a challenge, then Warner does. He's averaging close to 60 in his last 7 games, so there's a good chance he'll lead Australia.
Those are some good odds, and it's a pitch where bowlers will find a lot of bounce and movement with the new ball. Even if it's Rabada from South Africa or Hazlewood from Australia, either pacer could surprise the batters with a rapid delivery that will end in a bowled wicket.
Although de Kock and Bavuma have been quite effective together as the opening SA pair, we've still got to trust Head and Warner for Oz. It's going to be very close, but Warner is far more trustworthy at the moment and Head is due for a high-scoring game.
