RSA vs AUS Match Preview

South Africa's World Cup preparations appeared to be in tatters as they lost 5 consecutive matches across formats against Australia. However, they managed to mount a stunning comeback at the Senwes Park to hand the visitors a whopping 111-run defeat.

Temba Bavuma continues to have an excellent year as he notched up his 2nd 50+ score in 3 matches. His 146-run partnership with de Kock set the foundation for a big total. Reeza Hendricks, who was brought in for Rassie van der Dussen, played a patient but important knock of 39 runs.

But the star of the show was Aiden Markram, who scored a scintillating century. He now has two triple-digit scores in the last 4 ODIs and will be a vital player for the team at the Centurion, thanks to his all-round credentials. Gerald Coetzee bowled an excellent spell in the last match, picking up 4 wickets. He was the only seamer to have an impact. The spinners on the other hand kept a tight leash on the Australians and picked up 4 wickets between them.

Batting has been Australia’s biggest strength in this ODI series. Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner have both scored a century and a half-century in the 3 innings played and look in good touch. Travis Head has a penchant for playing the big shots and helped give the team some brisk starts.

However, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey haven’t been at their fluent best, while Tim David, who is making his ODI debut in this series, hasn’t been able to replicate his success from the shortest format. The decision to drop an in-form Adam Zampa proved to be costly for the visitors on the turning wicket, as his replacement, Tanveer Sangha, wasn’t able to take much advantage of the conditions.

However, as the action moves to the SuperSport Park, Australia will hope that the pace battery delivers the goods.

Weather Report

The weather is expected to be clear with plenty of sunshine and temperatures between 18 to 27 degrees Celsius. There is no forecast of rain.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the SuperSport Park is generally considered to be good to bat on. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 250. However, the team batting first will look to get as close to 350 as possible. The chasing teams have won 53% of the games, compared to 41% for the team batting first. Therefore, we feel that this team winning the toss might opt to field.

The seamers will get some help early on but there is nothing much for the spinners.
