Gujarat

Although both these teams ended the group stages of the competition in second position, Gujarat has had a much better run during the league stages of the competition. They have also won their last two games in the competition. These two wins came against Manipur and Railways. In their last game against Manipur, the Gujarat outfit succeeded in registering a win by a margin of 6 wickets. Batting first, Manipur scored 137 runs all out. The Gujarat team chased this modest total easily with 6 wickets for 41 balls to spare.

The Gujarat opening ball bowlers Chintan Gaja and Arzan Nagwaswalla were the most successful bowlers picking up 3 wickets each. Gaja picked up 3 victims for 23 runs from his 3 overs while Nagwaswalla also picked up 3 scalps from 2.5 overs for just 18 runs. A couple of other bowlers that were among the runs in this game were Ravi Bishnoi and Vishal Jayswal. They picked up one wicket each. However, the most economical bowler on the scene was Hardik Patel who bowled his 3 overs with an economy rate of 6.33. These bowlers will be required to deliver the goods again in this game.

The Gujarat reply to this total did not begin well. They had lost 2 wickets for 16 runs from 2.2 overs. But the target was too small to defend for the Manipur bowlers. There was an excellent partnership between Saurav Chauhan and Chirag Gandhi that ensured that there was no collapse for Gujarat and they got across the line with plenty to spare. Chauhan scored a fifty from 28 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours while Gandhi hit 48 from just 19 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Gandhi remained not out in the Gujarat inning.  

Uttar Pradesh

After registering 3 wins in a row in the E Group, the UP team had to taste defeat in their last game of the league stages of the competition. Madhya Pradesh defeated them in a close game played in Dehradun. The Uttar Pradesh side batted first in this encounter to score 135 runs for the loss of 7 wickets from their 20 overs. Madhya Pradesh managed to chase down this target although it did take a lot of effort from their batters. They reached the target in the 20th over with 4 wickets in hand. This loss would have put a bit of a damper on the morale of the Uttar Pradesh team.

Batting first in this game, the Uttar Pradesh team managed to score a mediocre score of 137 runs from their quota of 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. The top scorer in this inning was Abhishek Goswami who hit 32 runs from 28 balls while opening the innings for Uttar Pradesh. He struck 4 fours and 1 six in the process. Sameer Rizvi also scored 31 runs from 27 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. Some other batters such as Rinku Singh and Dhruv Jurel got in but could not convert the starts into a big score.

The MP chase was successful on the account of just two batters viz. Rajat Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer. They scored 68 and 35 not out for MP. As far as the Uttar Pradesh bowling attack was concerned, a few bowlers did a good job of containment but there was no outstanding contributor in this game. Yash Dayal and Mohsin Khan picked up 2 wickets each for 40 and 13 runs respectively. Mohsin Khan also bowled economically giving away just 13 runs from 3 overs. Nitish Rana and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also picked up 1 wicket each.
