Marathonbet Review

Can you trust Marathonbet?

Marathonbet is licensed through the UK Gambling Commission, The Alderney Gambling Control Commission, Curacao, Spain and Italy. In short, they’re incredibly well regulated. According to the UKGC, no sanctions are on record against Marathonbet, which is helpful information. The UKGC is notoriously strict with their licensees and infractions are penalized.

Considering their reputed customer base, you’ll find very few complaints about the bookmaker. There are currently only 17 reviews on Trustpilot. The negative reviews mostly complain about limits being imposed by the bookmaker after the reviewers won money. This is not an uncommon complaint against many bookmakers. Whilst it is never great when a bookmaker limits winners, these few complaints are nowhere near enough to tarnish Marathonbet’s trustworthiness.

Generally speaking, most reviewers that are similar to us consider Marathonbet a good or even great bookmaker. We didn’t find any raving reviews and none that don’t have at least one or two complaints. But those are very similar to the issues we found as well. Overall, Marathonbet can be considered trustworthy.

As with all bookmakers, do make sure that you read the full terms and conditions before signing up. That’s the best way to avoid any misunderstandings.

Odds and betting selection

Our focus is, of course, cricket betting. Whilst it is not a priority at Marathonbet and doesn’t get listed under their popular sports, you can find cricket selections easily enough under their categories (A-Z).

At the time of our review, you had selections such as New Zealand, Plunket Shield, ODI 1st, ODI Series, Pakistan Super League, Test Matches, 2nd Test, Twenty20, 1st Twenty20 and Twenty20, Series available. Women ODI was also available with various odds.

Under Outright we found odds for Australia Sheffield Shield, India Premier League, England County Championship Division 1 and Division 2, The Ashes 2019 and Twenty20 World Cup 2020. Would hope, however, that more odds will become available as we approach some of the major leagues. At the very least, the live selection should encompass more options than just outright bets.

At the time of our review, no in-play odds were displayed, because of a distinct lack of current matches. Had we reviewed Marathonbet during a world cup event, we would surely have found a big selection of in-play odds.

Marathonbet is probably not our first choice for Cricket Betting, but they have enough on offer to recommend themselves and there are many, many other markets and sports available besides.

Bonuses and promotions

It’s somewhat difficult to talk about bonuses and promotions at Marathonbet. For instance, they don’t have a welcome bonus available of any kind. Some consider this a downside, whilst other consider this reasonable. At Marathonbet the focus is on betting and gambling in many forms and it can often be a hindrance to take up bonus offers and fulfil wagering requirements that are often full of restrictions. You’re here to place bets or play some slots. No need to worry about wagering requirements.

A lot of players are awarded freebets when first depositing money, but if you will that lucky we have no way of knowing before it happens.

Under the tap ‘Services’, you can also find information about available bonuses at the bookmaker. They introduce a range of bonuses that may be available on occasion, including Advance Bet, Best Odds or Free Bets. You’ll generally have to find any such offers in your own account, if they are available. But there’s no separate bonus page that lists all currently available bonuses at Marathonbet.

The good thing is that bonuses are very well explained in advance, so you shouldn’t have to worry about hidden Ts&Cs or any pitfalls that would prevent you from claiming a bonus.

At Marathonbet you find a massive help section that covers just about any topic of interest when it comes to betting and gambling. One section is dedicated to Payments. You will be able to select your country (if it’s not an option, you will probably not be able to open an account here anyway) and your currency. Then a table shows you which options are available for deposits, how much the minimum deposit is, whether there’s a transaction fee (generally free of charge) and how quickly the deposit is processed (almost always instantaneous). The next column gives you the same information for withdrawals and it also mentions whether a payment option is even available for withdrawals.

The most commonly available deposit and withdrawal options are Skrill, Neteller, Credit Card, Bank Transfer, ecoPayz and even crypto currencies. The payment options vary depending on where you live, of course. Thus, customers in India won’t be able to deposit via Bitcoin at this time.

Marathonbet reputedly offers some of the fastest withdrawal times in the industry. Interestingly, we have not found any reviews contradicting this claim. Whilst some customers have had trouble with withdrawals, they were almost always connected with the KYC process and the verification of their identities.

Most bookmakers and online casinos only require you to verify your ID when you want to make a more significant withdrawal. Some want you to provide ID right away. The best option at Marathonbet is to contact customer service and enquire about their requirements. Some form of personal ID, payment verification and proof of current address will be required, and all must be recent. This is standard, though there are limits when it comes to verifying your payment method. You should, for instance, never be required to send photographs of both sides of a credit card.

We would recommend, you get the ID process out of the way before making your first withdrawal. It will prevent later headaches.

Customer Support

The customer service team at Marathonbet is available via phone (though only through a UK number), live chat and email. In the past, the customer support was only available during limited hours, but nowadays you can contact the team 24/7 and expect a reasonably speedy response.

Calling them is that last option you should choose as you’re most likely going to incur international phone charges. This is a bit of a let-down here and a reason why our rating isn’t better.

Live chat requires you to state your full name (why?), enter your email address, login or account nickname (again, why?) and your query. We assume, the latter will help the person on the other end, but some queries might be more involved than simply a login issue. Keep it as brief as you can.

It doesn’t take long for the chat to begin and whilst we don’t know where the person on the other end is located, their English was fine. We’re not sure what to expect in any of the many other languages the website operates in, to be honest. We don’t expect, however, that they’ll be as fluent in Italian or Greek.

Receiving a reply via email will naturally take a little longer. But we found no reason to complain about any answers received. That said, at the time of our review, the casino was unavailable, and we were unable to obtain a clear reason as to why that was the case or how long it would take until it would be up again (we tried on several occasions across a few days and it remained down).

The comprehensive help section was among the most helpful places we visited on the website. Many topics are covered here already and only laziness or actual problems are likely to compel you to contact customer service. In general, the service was timely, competent and friendly, though not necessarily outstanding.

Okay, so the website is really not the most attractive you will find out there. It’s simple, doesn’t provide any gimmicks and concentrates on what’s important: betting and playing. Navigation is fairly easy, and you won’t have troubles finding your way around. But we still consider the sportsbook a little cluttered. There’s just so much to look at and spacing everything out a little more would be nice. Still, if you’ve visited other sportsbooks before, you’ll find what you’re looking for.

All the markets are located on the left, the bet slip can be found in the upper right-hand corner and many links lead you to different sections. You won’t have to go scrolling to find Cricket, for example, thanks to the alphabetical order of the various categories.

Since the page is not overly loaded with graphics, it does load quickly (unless you want to visit the casino, which currently doesn’t load beyond an information that it is currently unavailable) and you’ll find everything a click away.

The mobile page is actually more attractive and easier to navigate. It does take a moment longer to load, however. Interestingly, you’ll land on the live betting page first and when you access Marathonbet on your mobile, you’ll only see the sports section. You also get a little drop-down information inviting you to download the mobile app. If you want to play games at the casino or live casino, you’ll be able to click separate links for further mobile apps.

Beyond that, all functions of the homepage are available via mobile and the live chat pops up in a separate page just as it does on the desktop site.

Further aspects of Marathonbet

Marathonbet has much more to offer than sportsbetting or Cricket betting. As we’ve already mentioned, they manage to be almost a one-stop-shop for all your gambling needs. Whilst the casino might be currently out of service (though hopefully not for much longer), you can access a live casino that offers various Evolution Gaming live table lobbies. Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat are all available here and you could play Casino Hold’em, if you wanted to. There is no other option to play live Poker at Marathonbet, however.

They do offer Virtuals, Financials, Lotto and Toto among their other products, however, which is great if you’re interested in other forms of gambling beyond sportsbetting.

Beyond that, Marathonbet partners with various clubs as a sponsor or major betting partner. Currently that includes Manchester City, Lazio, Hibernian, Girona, Dynamo Moscow and Karpaty.

Summary – Solid but with room to grow and improve

If you’ve made it to the end of our review, you’ll probably understand what we liked and didn’t like about Marathonbet. They are definitely a solid bookmaker and as far as other reviewers have attested to, offer a solid casino experience as well.

Are they outstanding? Not yet. They come with a long-standing experience and manage to attract customers around the world. We’re not necessarily wowed by their online presence and their Cricket offering could certainly be expanded on. The fact that there’s currently no live streaming is a major let-down for a major bookmaker.

From our experience with Marathonbet, it seems as little as if they’re happy to have a large customer base to work with, but that they aren’t necessarily interested in attracting new customers (hence no welcome bonus?). Their offering simply doesn’t scream: COME SIGN UP HERE! It’s more like: You’re welcome either way.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. And if you find what you’re looking for, you’re likely to sign up with a well-regulated, experienced and solid bookmaker.
