RSA vs AUS Match Preview

South Africa’s World Cup preparations appeared to be in shambles as they first lost the T20 series 3-0 and then were defeated in the first two ODIs. However, they have since made amends. This is the last international fixture for SA before they head to India for the warm-up matches and will look to make the most of it.

The last game was all about Heinrich Klaasen’s astonishing performance as he slammed 174 runs from just 83 deliveries. His 222-run partnership with David Miller, who remained unbeaten in 82, propelled SA to their 7th 400+ score in ODIs, which is a record. Earlier, de Kock and Rassie van Dussen played well to give Klaasen a solid platform to launch his attack.

South Africa will once again bank on its batting to deliver the goods. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi make up for an excellent new-ball pair. They picked up 7 wickets in the last match to deny the visitors any chance of getting close to the target.

Throw Gerald Coetzee in the mix and we have a good seam attack. Keshav Maharaj has bowled a couple of impressive spells and will once again play an important role.

Australia will need to review its strategy in the wake of consecutive losses. The bowling has been a bit of a letdown in those two matches as South Africa posted massive totals. Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, and Sean Abbott, all of whom are part of the World Cup squad, have gone for over 6 runs an over in the ODI series.

They will need to be more disciplined with their line and length. Coming to the batting, the visitors received a massive blow as Travis Head fractured his hand from a Gerald Coetzee delivery. He will be unavailable for this match and his World Cup participation is in jeopardy too.

This will now add scoring pressure on Marsh and David Warner to score runs at the top of the order, while Labuschagne and Alex Carey will play an important role during the middle overs.

Weather Report

It is expected to be bright and sunny in Johannesburg on Sunday and there is no chance of rain. The temperature will likely remain below the 25-degree mark.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Wanderers Stadium is excellent to bat on and has seen plenty of high-scoring encounters. The pitch is a bit dry and offers a good amount of pace and bounce. The seamers will get some help early on but things should settle down as the match progresses.

While the average first-inning score here is around 240, the team batting first will look to get as close to 300 as possible. Close to 56% of the matches played on this ground have been won while chasing, compared to 43% for the side batting first.

Therefore, bowling first might be a good idea on this wicket.

Dream11 Prediction

We are backing South Africa to win. They have been clinical in their performance during the last two matches and the batting has been excellent. They enjoy a good record at the Wanderers, having won 4 of their last 5 matches here. On the other hand, Australia has had no answer to SA’s batting onslaught, and the injury of Travis Head further dents its chances.
