PAKW vs RSAW Match Preview

Although the Pakistani women managed to sweep the T20 international series against the South African women, they are finding the one-series to be a different prospect altogether. Pakistani women are finding it difficult to register a win against South African women. The outstanding performer for South Africa in this game was Nadine de Klerk. She not only scored 24 runs not out but also picked up 4 wickets giving away just 32 runs in the process. After winning the toss, Pakistani women decided to bat first.

However, Masabata Klaas and Ayabonga Khaka picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively. The South African contributions with the bat came from Tazmin Brits, Marizanne Kapp, and Lara Goodall. De Clerk was the standout performer with the ball though. She collected the first 3 wickets of Pakistani women within her first couple of overs. She also picked up the crucial wicket of Sidra Ameen clean bowled. Pakistan was quickly reduced to 20 for 3 within 9.1 overs. Khaka and Klaas got into action later on inflicting more damage to reduce Pakistan to 49 for 6.

The real resistance from Pakistani women came from Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana as they stitched together a useful partnership of 114 runs for the 7th wicket. Riaz and Sana contributed 53 and 69 runs respectively. But after these two left the end was near for Pakistani women. De Klerk returned to pick her 4th wicket when she sent Umm-e-Hani packing. This total by Pakistani women did not appear to be too big. It was almost the same score as the one they got in the first game of the series where they scored 165 runs while chasing a massive target of 292 runs set by South African women.

South African women put up another good performance with the bat during the chase. Although the South African skipper did not last too long, she was involved in a decent opening wicket partnership with Brits. Wolvaardt fell to Sadia Iqbal after having scored 13 runs. However, there was to be no more drama in the chase as Brits and Goodall put together 45 and 36 runs respectively, and got the chase off on the right track. Things turned out to be pretty straightforward after that for South African women. Kapp also contributed a useful 29 not out from 28 balls and together with de Klerk took the team to a win.
