MI vs GT Match Preview

The Mumbai Indians have won 3 of their last 4 matches, all of them while chasing 200 or more. Two of those wins have come at the Wankhede Stadium, which should give them plenty of confidence. While Rohit Sharma’s struggles continue, his opening partner, Ishan Kishan, is in excellent rhythm and has played a vital role in laying a strong base for the batsmen lower down the order.

Cameron Green and Tim David have lived up to their standards in the last few matches. Nehal Wadhera is proving to be one of the biggest finds of the season for the Mumbai Indians and he has scored half-centuries in his last two outings.

But it is Suryakumar Yadav who has towered above the rest of the batsmen in the recent matches, scoring 3 half-centuries in his previous 4 matches. SKY is unstoppable in such form and keeping him in check is the probably the first question for every team that plays against MI.

In the bowling department, Piyush Chawla is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 17 wickets, but he is the only quality spinner on the team.

Jason Behrendorff is likely to start with the new ball along with Chris Jordan, while Akash Madhwal and Kumar Kartikeya are likely to fill in during the middle overs. We are not big fans of Jordan as he is often very expensive and erratic under pressure.

Shubhman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha will be looking to give a strong start to the team here. Gill has been pretty consistent throughout the season and is the leading run-scorer for the team with 469 runs, while Saha has picked up good form in the last couple of matches.

Both batter play with absolute freedom and can be very hard to stop, as we saw in GT's previous match.

The middle order does seem a bit weak for the Titans, especially when compared to that of the Mumbai Indians. Vijay Shankar has played a couple of good innings so far but has lacked consistency. Similarly, Hardik Pandya and David Miller have been seen struggling to middle the ball at times.

At the Wankhede, in good batting conditions, we think this middle-order could be more productive and showcase its big-hitting abilities.

The Gujarat Titans do have plenty of depth in their batting, thanks to players like Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan and that could work to their advantage here. The team does have an edge over the Mumbai Indians when it comes to bowling. Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are the joint-highest wicket-takers of the tournament.

Shami in particular has been very effective with the new ball and will be looking to pick some early wickets against a vulnerable MI opening pair. Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmad made a late entry into the team but have been very consistent so far.

Weather Report

The weather is expected to be warm and humid and we might see some dew later on in the match.

Pitch Report

The last couple of matches have shown that the pitch at the Wankhede is extremely good to bat on and no total can be considered a safe here. The team batting first will be looking to score at least 200 runs to give the bowlers a good chance.

There is some help for the spinners here especially in the first innings. But the pitch will get easier to bat on as the match progresses.

Notable stats

Old is Gold: Piyush Chawla Proving That Right!

Chawla has made an excellent comeback in the IPL this season. He has picked up 17 wickets in 11 matches and has a bowling strike rate of 15.17. He has bowled under pressure and has been able to deliver on most occasions.

Team News

There are no updates regarding injuries from either side.

Dream11 Prediction

We are backing the Mumbai Indians to win here. While the Gujarat Titans have played some excellent cricket so far, the Mumbai Indians are riding a great momentum and the batting has been exceptionally good in the last few matches, which can make a big difference here.

Top Picks

Suryakumar Yadav: Yadav has been simply brilliant in the last few matches and has powered Mumbai to some record wins. With the form that he is in, Yadav is a must-have for any team.

Nehal Wadhera: Wadhera has scored back-to-back half-centuries in the last two matches and is timing the ball well. Wankhede is one of his favorite hunting grounds.

Shubhman Gill: Gill is the highest run-scorer for the Titans this season. He enjoys a good record against the Mumbai Indians and has scored 3 half-centuries in his 9 innings against them.
