MI vs GT Team Previews

Mumbai Indians

After a somewhat slow start, the Mumbai Indians have gradually picked up the pace and seem to be peaking in form just at the right time. A convincing win over the Royal Challengers in their latest encounter has seen the team take a massive leap on the points table as they now sit in the 3rd place. This is no time to be complacent though and the Indians will need to score another big win here if they want to improve their NRR.

The Mumbai Indians have won 3 of their last 4 matches, all of them while chasing 200 or more. Two of those wins have come at the Wankhede Stadium, which should give them plenty of confidence. While Rohit Sharma’s struggles continue, his opening partner, Ishan Kishan, is in excellent rhythm and has played a vital role in laying a strong base for the batsmen lower down the order.

Cameron Green and Tim David have lived up to their standards in the last few matches. Nehal Wadhera is proving to be one of the biggest finds of the season for the Mumbai Indians and he has scored half-centuries in his last two outings.

But it is Suryakumar Yadav who has towered above the rest of the batsmen in the recent matches, scoring 3 half-centuries in his previous 4 matches. SKY is unstoppable in such form and keeping him in check is the probably the first question for every team that plays against MI.

In the bowling department, Piyush Chawla is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 17 wickets, but he is the only quality spinner on the team.

Jason Behrendorff is likely to start with the new ball along with Chris Jordan, while Akash Madhwal and Kumar Kartikeya are likely to fill in during the middle overs. We are not big fans of Jordan as he is often very expensive and erratic under pressure.

Gujarat Titans

The Titans are arguably the most consistent teams this season, having lost just 3 of their 11 fixtures so far. As a result, they are sitting comfortably at the top of the table with a 3-point lead.

Shubhman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha will be looking to give a strong start to the team here. Gill has been pretty consistent throughout the season and is the leading run-scorer for the team with 469 runs, while Saha has picked up good form in the last couple of matches.

Both batter play with absolute freedom and can be very hard to stop, as we saw in GT's previous match.

The middle order does seem a bit weak for the Titans, especially when compared to that of the Mumbai Indians. Vijay Shankar has played a couple of good innings so far but has lacked consistency. Similarly, Hardik Pandya and David Miller have been seen struggling to middle the ball at times.

At the Wankhede, in good batting conditions, we think this middle-order could be more productive and showcase its big-hitting abilities.

The Gujarat Titans do have plenty of depth in their batting, thanks to players like Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan and that could work to their advantage here. The team does have an edge over the Mumbai Indians when it comes to bowling. Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are the joint-highest wicket-takers of the tournament.

Shami in particular has been very effective with the new ball and will be looking to pick some early wickets against a vulnerable MI opening pair. Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmad made a late entry into the team but have been very consistent so far.

GT does not have any real weaknesses and is also very well-led. If anything, we think Hardik Pandya playing within his shelll is the only 'problem' for GT to solve.

MI vs GT Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will be looking to bowl first here. Defending a total is quite difficult, especially if there is some dew aroud.

Pitch and Conditions

The last couple of matches have shown that the pitch at the Wankhede is extremely good to bat on and no total can be considered a safe here. The team batting first will be looking to score at least 200 runs to give the bowlers a good chance.

There is some help for the spinners here especially in the first innings. But the pitch will get easier to bat on as the match progresses.

The weather is expected to be warm and humid and we might see some dew later on in the match.

MI vs GT Betting Tips

While the Gujarat Titans have been very consistent with their performance throughout this season, the recent performances of the Mumbai Indians make this game a very difficult one to call. Nevertheless, we are going to back the home team to win here as they have a stronger batting line-up, and with the way Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are batting, no total is too big for them.

Bet on the Mumbai Indians to win.

    Over 20.5 (1.72)

The Wankhede Stadium has an excellent track to bet on. We have seen some big totals being scored here. The boundaries are on the shorter side and the outfield is pretty quick too. That’s why we are predicting at least 1 high-scoring over here. This bet is a no-brainer and one where you can go a bit big.

  1. Bet365

Rashid Khan to take over 1.5 wickets

Rashid Khan has picked up 19 wickets so far this season and is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He enjoys a good record against the Mumbai Indians and has picked up 2 wickets in each of his last 3 matches against them. The nature of this bet makes it a bit risky but with Rashid in top form, it seems to be worth the risk.
