KKR vs RR Match Preview

The entry of Jason Roy has provided a fillip to an underpowered batting line-up for KKR. Roy has scored 2 half-centuries in his 5 outings and is batting at an average of 43.60. He, along with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, will be looking to give the team a strong start here.

The middle-order batsmen, particularly Nitesh Rana, are in good touch. Rinku Singh has taken up the role of a finisher with aplomb and has almost singlehandedly won the KKR two matches this season.

Andre Russell, who has had a sedate season so far by his lofty standards finally managed to get some runs under his belt in the last match. The spin attack led by Varun Chakaravarthy has done an excellent job so far. Chakaravarthy has taken 17 wickets in 11 matches, while Suyash Sharma and Sunil Narine have taken 10 and 7 wickets respectively.

The seam attack remains a bit of a weak link for the team as Umesh Yadav, Vaibhav Arora, and Harshit Rana have all failed to make an impact.

It was another excellent performance by the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler in the team’s latest fixture as the duo put up a brisk 54-run partnership for the first wicket. Buttler went in to put up his highest score of the season and was ably supported by Sanju Samson as RR went on to post their highest-ever total at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

It was however a poor bowling effort from the hosts, especially the seamers, they were unable to defend the target. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a terrific spell, picking up 4 wickets, but the bowlers around him leaked vital runs. The Royals will be hoping that the middle order once again steps up here.

Shimron Hetmeyer, Devdutt Padikkal, and Dhruv Jurel have played some vital innings in the past. While Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Trent Boult remain the 3 most experienced bowlers in the team, the others, including Sandeep Sharma and Kuldip Yadav will need to bowl a tighter line.

Weather Report

The weather is expected to remain dry and warm with temperatures between 29 to 32 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The pitch here has dried out a bit and appears to have gotten a bit easy to bat on as seen in the last match. Teams batting first will be looking to get over 200 runs here to give the bowlers a fighting chance. While the quicker bowlers have struggled, the spinners will get some turn due to cracks and rough spots.

Notable stats

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Next Superstar?

Jaiswal has been very consistent with the bat for the Rajasthan Royals this season. He is the second-highest run-getter of the tournament with 477 runs and has a strike rate of 160.60. Perhaps the best thing to see has been his intent and the ability attack from ball one.

Team News

There are no updates regarding injuries from either side.
