KKR vs RR Team Previews

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders received a couple of body blows ahead of the start of their latest campaign and some of their key players, including Shreyas Iyer and Shakib Al-Hasan were unavailable to play. An inconsistent start to the season didn’t help them either.

But the KKR have played out of their skins in the last few matches and 3 wins in the last 4 games mean that they are knocking at the doors of the top-4 slots. However, there is still a lot of work that remains to be done as there are plenty of other teams clamoring for the coveted spot.

The entry of Jason Roy has provided a fillip to an underpowered batting line-up. Roy has scored 2 half-centuries in his 5 outings and is batting at an average of 43.60. He, along with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, will be looking to give the team a strong start here.

The middle-order batsmen, particularly Nitesh Rana, are in good touch. Rinku Singh has taken up the role of a finisher with aplomb and has almost singlehandedly won the KKR two matches this season.

Andre Russell, who has had a sedate season so far by his lofty standards finally managed to get some runs under his belt in the last match. The spin attack led by Varun Chakaravarthy has done an excellent job so far. Chakaravarthy has taken 17 wickets in 11 matches, while Suyash Sharma and Sunil Narine have taken 10 and 7 wickets respectively.

The seam attack remains a bit of a weak link for the team as Umesh Yadav, Vaibhav Arora, and Harshit Rana have all failed to make an impact.

Rajasthan Royals

Sanju Samson will be livid with his team’s performance over the last few weeks. At one stage, the Royals appeared to be cruising along, even occupying the top spot on the table for a brief period. But the team saw a sudden dip in form and has now lost 5 of their last 6 matches. As a result, they will now have to jostle with plenty of other teams to earn their spot in the playoffs.

It was another excellent performance by the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler in the team’s latest fixture as the duo put up a brisk 54-run partnership for the first wicket. Buttler went in to put up his highest score of the season and was ably supported by Sanju Samson as RR went on to post their highest-ever total at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

It was however a poor bowling effort from the hosts, especially the seamers, they were unable to defend the target. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a terrific spell, picking up 4 wickets, but the bowlers around him leaked vital runs. The Royals will be hoping that the middle order once again steps up here.

Shimron Hetmeyer, Devdutt Padikkal, and Dhruv Jurel have played some vital innings in the past. While Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Trent Boult remain the 3 most experienced bowlers in the team, the others, including Sandeep Sharma and Kuldip Yadav will need to bowl a tighter line.

KKR vs RR Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch here has dried out a bit and appears to have gotten a bit easy to bat on as seen in the last match. Teams batting first will be looking to get over 200 runs here to give the bowlers a fighting chance. While the quicker bowlers have struggled, the spinners will get some turn due to cracks and rough spots.

The weather is expected to remain dry and warm with temperatures between 29 to 32 degrees Celsius.

KKR vs RR Betting Tips

Both teams have lacked consistency and have seen some ups and downs in their performance so far. While the hosts have built up some good momentum in the last couple of weeks, we are going to back the visiting team to bounce back here. They have a stronger batting line-up and most of their top and middle-order batsmen are in good touch. The team also has two of the most experienced spinners on the team, which can be a big advantage here.
