INDW vs ENGW Match Preview

India is set to host a Test match after a hiatus of 9 years. With the exception of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, none of the players have experienced playing a red-ball international match in India, making them eager to showcase their skills.

While the majority of the T20 squad has been retained by the hosts, there have been some changes made to strengthen both the batting and bowling departments. Harleen Deol and Sneh Rana have been included in the team to provide depth to the batting lineup, as well as to bring variety to the spin attack.

Additionally, Meghna Singh, a talented seamer, possesses the ability to be highly effective with the new ball. The Indian women's team faced challenges in the T20 series due to their batting performance and will be determined to improve upon that.

The squad also features familiar faces such as Mandhana, Harmanpreet, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma.

Tammy Beaumont's return to the opening slot is the most significant change for the visitors. Despite her decent performance in the WBBL, Beaumont boasts a strong record in Test cricket and is expected to be accompanied by Sophia Dunkley.

The middle order, consisting of Heather Knight, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amy Jones, and Danielle Wyatt, remains relatively unchanged and in excellent form, aiming to score substantial runs. The new ball will be initiated by Lauren Bell and Kate Cross, with Lauren Filer joining them in the seam attack.

Leading the spin department will be Sophie Ecclestone, who had a remarkable time in the T20s.

Weather Report

The weather is likely to be clear with plenty of sunshine and temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The DY Patil Stadium hasn’t hosted a Test match yet and it remains to be seen how the pitch behaves in the longest format. However, the limited-overs matches have shown that the surface is good to bat on as it provides true pace and bounce.

Like with all subcontinental pitches, the surface will degrade and get harder to bat on as the days progress. The spinners will come into action in the last couple of days.

Notable stats

Shafali Verma: Sehwagesque

Shafali Verma has an excellent record in Test matches. She has played 2 matches so far and has scored 242 runs at an average of 60.50. Her knocks include 3 half-centuries in 4 innings.
