ZIM vs WI Team Previews

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has done well to win both of its matches so far and is in second place on the Group A points table. With 3 teams advancing to the quarterfinals from each group, Zimbabwe is almost certain to make it there.

The veterans have shown the team the way forward with some scintillating performances so far. Sean Williams and Craig Ervine scored centuries in the first match and followed it up with individual half-centuries in the next game. Sikandar Raza stepped up too, clobbering Zimbabwe’s fastest-ever ODI century in the match against the Netherlands, reaching the landmark in just 54 deliveries.

In addition to the trio, Zimbabwe has plenty of capable batsmen, including Jaylord Gumbie, Wesley Madhevere, Ryan Burl, and Clive Madande. The bowling however can be a loophole that can be exploited by the West Indies. While Richard Ngrava has bowled a couple of excellent spells, he has received little support from the seamers at the other end.

Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara have struggled to pick up wickets and have also been a bit expensive. Similarly, the specialist spinner Wellington Masakadza hasn’t been consistent enough and the team will have to rely on the services of all-rounders like Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl to bowl well during the middle overs.

West Indies

As expected, West Indies has delivered an impressive performance in both of its matches played so far. They are currently at the top of the Group A table thanks to an excellent NRR, and just like their opponents, are certain to make it to the Super Six stage.

Captain Shai Hope has led his team from the front, scoring a half-century and a century in the two matches, and is also the top run-getter for West Indies in this tournament. He, along with Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder, and Johnson Charles makes up for a pretty strong middle order. However, the opening pair of Brandon King and Kyle Mayers hasn’t been in the best of forms and will be looking to turn things around here.

The seamers have done an excellent job so far as all of them, including Holder, Mayers, Alzarri Joseph, and Keemo Paul have picked up wickets and have also been economical. The spin attack consists of Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein, who have picked up 3 wickets between them.

Westt Indies’ biggest strength lies in its all-rounders and their performance will play a key role here.

Pitch and Conditions

The Harare Sports Club offers an excellent surface to bat on and has already hosted some high-scoring encounters in this tournament. The team batting first will be looking to score well over 300 runs to give their bowlers a fighting chance. The seamers will get some movement early on in the match but the pitch should settle down and get easier to bat on as the match progresses. The weather will remain dry with temperatures remaining in the early 20s.

ZIM vs WI Betting Tips

While Zimbabwe has played some excellent cricket and some of their senior players are in excellent form with the bat, it is the bowling that can let them down here. West Indies have a lot of depth in their batting and can exploit the chinks in the hosts’ bowling line-up. However, we will surely have an exciting contest on our hands.

Bet on West Indies to win.
