YOR vs NOR Team Previews

Yorkshire

Yorkshire lost its first 3 matches of the season on the trot but scripted an excellent comeback to win the next 6. However, it faced its 4th defeat of the season on Sunday as it faced a massive defeat against Derbyshire. As a result, their NRR has seen a big drop and it will need to win here to improve the chances of finishing in the top 2.

Dawid Malan and Adam Lyth have been excellent for the team at the top of the order. Malan is the leading scorer of the tournament, scoring 491 runs so far. However, the batting of the middle-order batsmen hasn’t been that good.

Shan Masood and Jonathan Tattersall haven’t been consistent enough and that can be a cause of concern for the team, especially if the opening pair fails like it did in the last match. James Wharton hasn’t appeared in many matches this season but appears to be in decent form.

All-rounders Matthew Revis and David Weise will play a key role with the bat during the death overs. Talking about the bowling, the seamers Jordan Thompson and Ben Mike have been brilliant so far, taking 30 wickets between them, while David Weise and Revis have bowled well in patches.

The team is however a bit lacking in the spin department, with Dom Bess being the only full-time option.

Yorkshire Playing 11

Adam Lyth, Dawid Malan, Shan Masood, James Wharton, Matthew Revis, Jonathan Tattersall, Ben Mike, Jordan Thompson, Dom Bess, David Wiese, Jafer Chohan.

Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire has been rather inconsistent this season and will be fighting for survival here. They are currently 8th on the points table, trailing the top 2 by 4 points. With just 4 matches to go for them, a loss here will virtually leave them out of the race.

Northamptonshire beat Nottinghamshire in their latest fixture and that should give them plenty of confidence. Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay will be looking to give the team a strong start here. Vasconcelos has been one of the most consistent batsmen in the Northamptonshire squad, but Gay hasn’t been at his best yet.

The middle order is made up of skipper David Willey, Justin Broad, Saif Zaib, and Rob Keogh. While Zaib has done a decent job, the others have failed to get going. Northamptonshire is also lacking a bit when it comes to depth in batting. Andrew Tye and Tom Taylor make for a good pace attack and they will be helped by Ben Sanderson and Willey.

Freddie Heldreich is the lone spinner on the team and is the top wicket-taker of the squad with 16 wickets.

YOR vs NOR Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will be looking to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Headingley is an absolute belter and has hosted quite a few high-scoring encounters in the past. The average first-inning score here is around 185 but the team batting first will be looking to get over 200 to give the bowlers a good chance to defend. The bowlers will need to hit the right areas or else they will be taken for runs.

There is a forecast of rain throughout the day and the temperature will be below 20 degrees Celsius.

The pitch at Headingley is an absolute belter and the batsmen will find it easy to play their shots here. The outfield is pretty quick too, and given the form of some players on both teams, we are likely to see plenty of 4s getting scored here.
