SYTW vs MLRW Team Previews
Sydney Thunder Women
The Thunder can surely only get better, right? Last season was a miserable outcome for the team, as they finished last on the ladder with a 1-10 record (losing their last 7 games) and never had any forward momentum.
However, there are several changes to the squad, so this may prove to be a completely new season. One of the best batters from last season, Rachael Haynes, has retired. There have also been the departures of Chloe Tryon, Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, Jessica Davidson, Corinne Hall, and Belinda Vakarewa.
On the plus side, the Thunder have quality batting with the inclusion of Heather Knight, Marizanne Kapp, and Chamari Athapaththu. Top scorer from 2022, Phoebe Litchfield (280 runs), remains with the team for some stability. Two batters, in particular, have looked awesome to start the season in this first win, with Athapaththu (52 runs) and Litchfield (52 runs) getting things rolling.
There’s much excitement about the bowling improvements, as pace bowler Lauren Bell is a new addition, and she started out for 1/28 in the first game. Athapaththu displayed her allrounder abilities with a huge 3/20 performance (5.00 Economy Rate), and Knight also kick-started things well with 3/27.
Sydney Thunder Women Playing 11
Tahlia Wilson, Chamari Atapattu, Phoebe Litchfield, Heather Knight, Marizanne Kapp, Anika Learoyd, Olivia Porter, Claire Moore, Hannah Darlington, Ebony Hoskin, Samantha Bates.
Melbourne Renegades Women
The Renegades have been displaying some great resilience so far, as they only lost a close game to the Heat by 6 runs, then defeated the mighty Strikers by 81 runs. As of now, Kaur appears to be excelling in the middle order batting spot, as she’s picked up 74 runs and is highly consistent. Beaumont is solid with 64 runs, although we’re expecting much more from Matthews, who only has 32 runs.
Still, even if Matthews hasn’t been amazing with the bat, she’s proven her worth with 5 big wickets for 50 runs in 7 overs. If she can keep up this pace, then the Renegades have a great allrounder on their hands. Kaur and Wareham are also ones to watch with 3 wickets each.

SYTW vs MLRW Toss Prediction
Based on the pitch results for T20 games, it’s very balanced again. 28 teams have won batting second, while 26 have won batting first. Captains may prefer to bowl first and have a clearer total of what to chase later on.

Pitch and Conditions
The SCG pitch is regarded as quite balanced, but often results in high-scoring games in T20 leagues. Batters can be left flat-footed by the speed and bounce at times, but talented players can use this height to find the boundary, not to mention the rapid outfield.
SYTW vs MLRW Betting Tips
This is a tough one to call, as it’s only the start of the season and both teams have had big changes from last year. The Rajabets odds make it quite enticing for the Thunder, but actually, the odds for the Renegades aren’t far behind and we think that they’re a slightly stronger team. The Renegades have won the last four games over the Thunder, and players like Kaur and Matthews are playing great at the right time.
If the Renegades can dismiss both Athapaththu and Litchfield for low scores, then this should unsettle the rest of the batting order and cause disarray. The Renegades batters are also experienced enough to handle the Thunder bowlers.
Bet on the Melbourne Renegades to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Matthews has slightly better odds than Wareham, and we think that Matthews' performances in the first two games are going to continue. She already has 5 wickets and a great ER of 5.00, so she's talented at keeping runs low. Her spin will have to work a bit harder on this pitch, but she's very talented.
It's wise to keep betting on Kaur right now, as she's in the zone and leading the Renegades in runs with 74 runs and an SR of 125.42. There are many good batters on this team, but Kaur has great experience in the India side and is an expert in T20 cricket.
Those are some nice odds to take for an easy bet, so long as the Renegades bowl first and have a decent total to chase later on.
Beaumont already has at least 30 in her first two games, so there's a strong chance that she can get over 22.5 runs here. Beaumont is a powerful hitter and already has 8 boundaries so far.
