SLW vs NZW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 10, 2023

After Sri Lanka Women defeated New Zealand Women in a best-of-three ODI series, 2-1, we’ve now moved on to a best-of-three T20I series. Sri Lanka could have won the first match based on their skilled performances in the ODI games, but it was New Zealand that ultimately picked up the first victory in the T20I series by 5 wickets (7 balls remaining).

Sri Lanka Women vs. New Zealand Women will be played at P Sara Oval, Colombo, on 10th July. Keep checking our homepage to see all the latest bets, scores, and advice for cricket matches.

SLW vs NZW Team Previews

Sri Lanka Women

Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 9/106 is far from what they’re capable of producing, and the team has got to feel like it could do much better in the second game. New Zealand’s decision to bowl certainly worked, as the spinning trio of Carsen, Kasperek, and Kerr all took two wickets each and the SL batters had a tough time facing them.

The beginning of Sri Lanka’s batting effort was marred by Athapaththu’s duck, which was unusual considering she had two centuries in the ODI series. After Samarawickrama went for 12 runs, then things went from bad to worse. No batters scored over 30 runs and the batters simply had no answer for spin bowling.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers performed slightly better than the batters, especially spinner Priyadharshani, who took 3/17 and took the biggest wickets of Kerr, Devine, and Green. Ranasinghe (0/30) and Ranaweera (0/21) will definitely be the ones to improve the most, as their bowling helped NZ score easy runs.

Sri Lanka Women Playing 11

Chamari Atapattu, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Inoshi Fernando, Inoka Ranaweera, Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari, Hasini Perera.

New Zealand Women

Although New Zealand was the favourite heading into this match, it was still a surprise to see them win so convincingly on foreign turf. The victory likely won’t go to their heads, however, as they lost the ODI series and still have some improvements to make.

Devine (0) and Green (5) will be the batters to watch, as NZ will find it hard to win if these two don’t perform to heights we know they’re capable of. Bates (44) and Kerr (34) really saved the team, but Sri Lanka will jump on any opportunity if any batters play below standards.

NZ’s bowling needs little work to improve and we’ll likely see more spin, as it’s the same pitch as the first game. Pace bowlers like Tahuhu might not be so needed, as she only bowled two overs and finished with 0/13.

New Zealand Women Playing 11

Suzie Bates, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine, Maddy Green, Georgia Plimmer, Brooke Halliday, Leigh Kasperek, Lea Tahuhu, Eden Carson, Fran Jonas.

SLW vs NZW Toss Prediction

There haven't been many T20I games played here, but bowling first is still looking like the better choice for any captain winning the toss, especially after NZ's great bowling in Game 1.

Pitch and Conditions

The P Sara Oval is usually regarded as great for batting, but as we already saw, experienced spin bowlers do get a lot of grip and turn here. Fast bowlers can struggle to see much bounce or movement, so captains will prefer their spinners.

SLW vs NZW Betting Tips

It’s tempting to choose New Zealand in this game, but their odds are barely worth it to win. We think it’s still a better decision to go with the underdog and select Sri Lanka, especially as they should play better in the second game. After all, they have home-ground advantage, did win two matches in the ODI series, and have got excellent players like Athapaththu and Samarawickrama. Plus, the Parimatch odds are fantastic for SL to win and there’s a good chance for money to be made.

Bet on Sri Lanka to win.

Although Athapaththu is heavily regarded as the team's best batter, now we're not so sure after her duck in the first T20. She'll likely bounce back, but we also trust Harshitha Samarawickrama. She underperformed in the ODI series and scored just 12 runs in the first T20, but averages 23.87 in T20I games and is usually reliable for big scores. Plus, her odds are really worth it and much better than the odds from Athapaththu.

It's still not very exciting to bet on Devine or Amelia Kerr, even if they are great batters, as the odds are just too low. Green wasn't too helpful in the first game with just 5 runs, but it's wroth giving her another chance. She's scored over 200 runs in her last 10 T20I matches and not uncommon to score over 40 runs, so her odds make it worth a go.
