SLW vs NZW Team Previews

Sri Lanka Women

As of now, Sri Lanka is placed 8th in the Women's T20I ICC rankings, whereas New Zealand is in the third spot. Sri Lanka will face a tough battle against New Zealand, but the fact that they won the ODI series and knowing it’s on their home turf, will give SL a big boost in confidence.

It’s fair to say that Sri Lanka could not have won those two ODI games without the batting expertise of Athapaththu, who was simply excellent with 248 total runs. Although her duck in the second game was surprising, she made two excellent centuries (140 & 108) that helped her team win the matches. Athapaththu is also batting well in T20I cricket, averaging 27.80 in her last 10 matches.

Sri Lanka will need more from Samarawickrama, who despite averaging 40.14 across her last 10 T20I matches, was practically absent from the ODI games. Samarawickrama managed just 16 runs in three games.

For the bowling, spinner Ranasinghe will certainly be the number one option, as she has not only picked up 8 wickets in her last 10 T20I matches (ER of 7.98 could be better), but was solid in the ODI series with 4/122. Ranaweera has been great in recent T20I matches with 13 wickets in her last 10 games, but underperformed in the ODI games with only 2/131.

Sri Lanka Women Playing 11

Chamari Atapattu, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Hansima Karunaratne, Inoshi Fernando, Inoka Ranaweera, Udeshika Prabodhani.

New Zealand Women

Despite having three reliable batters, New Zealand still dropped two ODI games and just had one victory. Devine was the team’s top scorer with 194 runs, but most of that was thanks to her huge 137 runs in the second game (which NZ won). Much will be on Amelia Kerr’s shoulders in these upcoming matches, as she’s been excellent in her last 10 T20I matches with 308 runs and an average of 44.00.

Sri Lanka’s batters should be most worried about fast bowler Tahuhu, who continues to improve every season. She finished the ODI series with an astounding 5/86 (4.77 ER), but Tahuhu is also consistent in T20I matches, with 16 wickets in her last 8 matches. Carson was a bit poor in the ODI games with 2/114, but we’re excited to see more of Devine, who was excellent in only 13 overs with 3/67.

SLW vs NZW Toss Prediction

There have only been two T20I games played here, and both times the team bowling first has won. While that’s not much data to use, it’s still a good indication of the pitch report and what the captain may choose if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The P Sara Oval is well known for being a good surface for batting. However, it may also help spinners to get a decent amount of turn and grip. Fast bowlers can find the pitch challenging to generate substantial bounce off the surface because of its sluggish nature.

SLW vs NZW Betting Tips

There’s no escaping the stats that New Zealand has beaten Sri Lanka five times in a row in T20I matches. However, the fact that Sri Lanka was good enough to win the ODI series and the home advantage makes us want to choose them to beat NZ in this game. The 10Cric odds are favouring NZ, but this makes the bet even more appealing for Sri Lanka because the money return is quite significant.

Although the odds aren't quite as good as we'd like, it's still a safe bet considering just how great she's batting lately. We're not sure if we can trust Harshitha Samarawickrama just yet until we see her in some T20 matches. It's a good bet to choose Athapaththu and she plays great at home, especially after scoring 248 runs in the ODI series.

The odds for Devine and Amelia Kerr are far too low, but we think it's worth taking a chance on Green. Although she only scored 43 runs in the ODI series, she didn't get a chance to bat in the third game. She'll be more likely to bat in T20 games, where wickets come more often, and she's been good in her last 10 T20I matches with 239 runs. With more playing time, she can score more runs and her odds are fantastic.
