SLW vs NZW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 12, 2023

Despite Sri Lanka wrapping up the ODI series, 2-1, the home country was certainly and utterly outclassed in the T20I series. Even with home-ground advantage and a quality team, Sri Lanka crumbled to New Zealand in the first two T20I matches, which means this third game is more of a formality than a serious challenge.

Sri Lanka Women vs. New Zealand Women will be played at the P Sara Oval, Colombo, on July 12th. Keep checking our homepage to stay up-to-date of all betting tips and match results.

SLW vs NZW Team Previews

Sri Lanka Women

What happened to the Sri Lankan team that dominated in the ODI series? It appears this squad prefers 50-over matchups, as 20 overs is just not enough time to get into their stride. In both matches they’ve been sent in to bat first, which has worked for NZ, as Sri Lanka has scored only 106 and 118 runs, respectively.

Athapaththu has been a huge disappointment, as she was the best batter in the ODI series with two massive centuries, but she’s barely the same person. She’s picked up just two runs so far, as her first game was a duck. When the team’s top scorers after two matches are Sanjeewani (36) and Samarawickrama (35), then you know the squad has been batting poorly.

We really liked Priyadharshani’s bowling performance in the first match with 3/17, as it looked like she had enough to help Sri Lanka gain control. However, she went 0/27 in the second match and the team overall took just two wickets. The bowlers just allowed NZ so many easy shots and never looked threatening.

Sri Lanka Women Playing 11

Chamari Atapattu, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari, Inoshi Fernando, Inoka Ranaweera, Kawya Kavindi.

New Zealand Women

New Zealand has simply looked confident and talented throughout both T20 games, and it seems likely that this will continue into Game 3. As they’ve batted second in both matches, they’ve handled the pressure well enough, with Bates (96) and Amelia Kerr (67) carrying the team with the bat.

In the first match, it was the spinners of Carsen, Kerr, and Kasperek that helped dismantle the Sri Lankan batters (all with two wickets), but as the second game was on the same pitch, many thought it would be a similar result. However, pace bowler Tahuhu surprised everyone (perhaps herself too) with her incredible haul of 4/21. With this in mind, it could be that either spinners or pacers take over in Game 3.

SLW vs NZW Toss Prediction

Based on previous results, bowling first is certainly the better option and any captain winning the toss should keep this up. NZ will definitely bowl first, as they've had success in the first two matches.

Pitch and Conditions

The P Sara Oval can have great batting qualities, but if the right team is bowling, then it can provide a lot of turn and bounce. It's usually better for spinners with considerable grip, but pace bowlers can have a good time here if they are talented enough.

SLW vs NZW Betting Tips

Even though New Zealand have been the favourites throughout the series, we’ve found reasons to support Sri Lanka to win because of their great odds and how great they played in the ODI series. However, after these terrible matches in the T20I series, we just can’t see them winning the third match.

The Sri Lankan bowlers have no answer for Bates or Kerr, and the New Zealand bowlers are finding crafty ways to keep taking wickets with pace and spin. What’s more, Athapaththu should have led her side to two big wins, but she has fallen under the pressure.

Even though the odds aren’t very exciting, bet on New Zealand to win (feel free to place a very small bet on Sri Lanka if you like taking risks).

We've only had one half-century so far in this T20I series, and that was a close 52. Neither team is batting incredibly well, even though NZ is playing much better than Sri Lanka. We feel like Game 3 will be a low-scoring effort as the bowlers have dominated so far.

Kerr (67) hasn't scored as much as Bates, but we like her odds in this match. Batters such as Maddy Green may not even get a chance to play as she's in the middle order, and Sri Lanka don't take enough wickets. Kerr is a good option as she's in form and may hit in the high 40s.

Tahuhu is one of the best T20I bowlers in the world, and even though she had no wicket in the first match, her 4/17 in the second was simply incredible. She can perform well again, as she had 5 wickets in the ODI series. Her ER for T20I matches is 5.97, so she can certainly be the top bowler here.
