Sunrisers Eastern Cape
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning SA20 champions. Their title defence endured a stop-start beginning this year after sharing a washout with the Joburg Super Kings and losing to Durban's Super Giants. But they have since compiled consecutive wins against MI Cape Town and the Super Giants.
The Eastern Cape team's bowling resources have been a chief concern. They are without their top two wicket-takers from 2023 - spinner Roelof van der Merwe and Sisanda Magala were not available this season. England all-rounder Craig Overton also withdrew from the squad.
Seamers Ottniel Baartman and Daniel Worrall have been performing well in the absence of Magala and Overton. Baartman and Worrall have taken four wickets each this tournament. Spinner Simon Harmer should be full of confidence after taking a match-winning four-wicket haul against Durban recently.
The arrival of England batter Dawid Malan to the XI is a big boost for the Sunrisers, who still have not fielded Proteas captain Temba Bavuma this season. Opener Jordan Hermann struck a marvellous century against MI Cape Town last week. Captain Aiden Markram has put in three promising starts, but not converted beyond the 38 he collected against the Super Giants.

The Capitals were last year's runners-up. Currently, they're languishing at the bottom of the points table after three defeats in four matches - and are in danger of not qualifying for the play-offs stage of the 2024 SA20. They will be hard pressed against the inaugural champions this time.
Like the Eastern Cape team, Pretoria have a significant injury absence. Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje is sidelined and won't participate in this season's SA20. This leaves plenty of onus on the other seamers in the Pretoria squad, including captain Wayne Parnell.
England recruit Will Jacks is a massive asset for the Capitals. He has been opening the bowling and the batting, striking a century against the Super Giants and averaging two wickets per match this month. Jacks is one of the leading all-rounders in this competition. Look forward to another telling performance from him.
Proteas wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne entered the Capitals XI for the fixture against Joburg and hit a brisk 72 not out. But there was little to no support around him as Joburg romped to victory. Middle-order men Rilee Rossouw and Colin Ingram would like to bounce back from a duck each against the Super Kings.

Both teams will likely field two specialist spinners - and perhaps open the bowling with one. Rain is forecast in Port Elizabeth on matchday, which might affect this fixture.
