RSA vs AUS Team Previews

South Africa

South Africa doesn’t seem to have an answer for this Australian squad. In both matches so far, South Africa has had the chance to bowl first and bat first, but neither one had any effect.

There was some hope from Hendricks in the first game with 56 runs, and we thought he’d continue this form, but he managed only three runs in the second match. Captain Markram certainly had a better effort in this recent match with 49 runs, but otherwise, the team is struggling to contend with Australia’s superb bowling attack.

South Africa was counting a lot on Ngidi, who is one of the team’s most talented and experienced bowlers, but his bowling has been too predictable and non-threatening. Furthermore, Ngidi has been shockingly expensive and hasn’t picked up a wicket, taking his series total to 0/90. Williams has been decent with 4/61, but there’s not enough menace in this bowling lineup.

South Africa Playing 11

Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks, Matthew Breetzke, Aiden Markram, Donovan Ferreira, Tristan Stubbs, Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Lizaad Williams, Lungi Ngidi.

Australia

Many thought that Australia was pushing out a weakened roster, but that’s certainly not the case here. Captain Marsh has simply been batting on fire, as he’s made a total of 171 runs and is yet to be dismissed. Short has been great with 86 runs, but many batters haven’t had to do much because of Marsh’s brilliance. David, who scored 64 runs in the first match, didn’t even get a chance to bat in the second.

There was a slight change in the bowling lineup, with Zampa and Behrendorff replacing Sangha and Johnson, respectively. It was a surprise to see Sangha out of the squad, as he picked up 4/31 in the first match. Zampa was less impressive in the second game with 0/42, but it was clearly pace bowling that won this match, with Behrendorff (2 wickets), Ellis (3 wickets), and Abbott (3 wickets) all excelling with perfect line and length.

Australia Playing 11

Travis Head, Matthew Short, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Timothy David, Ashton Turner, Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson, Tanveer Sangha.

RSA vs AUS Toss Prediction

Given the way Australia has been playing, they would be wise to bowl first if winning the toss, as it may finish off the game quicker.

Pitch and Conditions

The Kingsmead pitch seems to be quite diverse, as Australia has dominated when batting and bowling in both games. Pace bowling appears to be the better option now, but it’s still a surprise as to why South Africa hasn’t been able to harness pace bowling. The pitch does offer plenty of bounce and turn, which has helped batters and bowlers so far.

RSA vs AUS Betting Tips

The Betway odds for South Africa to win are naturally better, but actually not as much as we imagined. The fact that South Africa has played so badly, you’d have thought their odds would be incredibly high. For this reason, we’re still backing Australia to win, as they’ve been so great with bat and ball, and we see no reason for this to stop on the same pitch as the other games.

Bet on Australia to win.

Although Marsh has been excellent so far, Short has proved useful and is definitely in form. He scored 66 runs in the second match and 20 in the first, but as an opening batter, he's going to get a chance to score big again. This will be Short's time!

We don't trust Ngidi right now, and he may wait until the ODI series before improving himself. We still think Williams has been the best so far, as he's the top bowler with 4/61. There's a good chance he could take 2-3 wickets, especially if the other bowlers aren't doing too well, so take this chance while the odds are good.

We know Short has been batting well, but still waiting for a good match from Travis Head. He has just 24 runs so far, but if he can get his act together and Short continues his impressive batting, then we trust this pair far more than Hendricks and Bavuma on South Africa.

    Method of First Dismissal: Bowled

There has been only a few players dismissed by being bowled, but the odds are too good to ignore. The pitch is really getting better for pace bowlers with a lot of turn and bounce, and there's a good chance that a player will either be LBW or bowled, but we like the odds better for the second option.
