RSA vs AUS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 01, 2023

We thought the first T20I match would be much closer, but in the end, Australia easily defeated South Africa by 111 runs. Interestingly, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first, which was clearly a terrible idea, as they allowed the Aussies to make a huge 226 runs. South Africa was outmatched in the second innings, however, where they were dismissed for just 115 runs.

The second T20I game featuring South Africa vs. Australia will take place again at Kingsmead, Durban, on September 1st. Don't forget to visit our cricket betting tips page to see predictions for all games.

RSA vs AUS Team Previews

South Africa

South Africa may well choose to bat first if they win the toss again, considering just how amazing Australia did in the initial T20I game. It’s true that several key names are missing the these games, including Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj, but the team seemed to lack much heart or effort.

No bowler conceded less than 40 runs, and Ngidi was certainly the most expensive with 0/49 and a shocking ER of 12.25. Fast bowler Williams was at least the one bright spot with 3/44, but overall the bowling attack was weak on home soil.

With such a big total of 227 runs to reach, there was never much hope for the South African batters. Bavuma was perhaps the biggest shock with a duck, as he’s regarded as one of the best short-over batters. Captain Markram was quite disappointing with 7 runs, as was Brevis with just 5 runs. The only real challenge came from Hendricks with 56 runs, which is no surprise as he’s one of the most experienced batters on the team.

South Africa Playing 11

Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Bjorn Fortuin, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Australia

Australia had a bit of a rough start with big-hitter, Travis Head, being dismissed for 6 runs. However, captain Marsh really put the team on his shoulders and made an impressive 92 runs from 49 deliveries (13 fours and 2 sixes). Tim David (64 runs) had a great partnership with Marsh, but it was a surprise to see Stoinis with only 6 runs, as he’s been in great form lately.

Spinner Adam Zampa was a last-minute scratch to the squad due to an illness, and it’s currently not known if he’ll be fit enough for the second match. He was expertly replaced by first-time player, Sangha, who was excellent with 4/31. Even if he wasn’t great with the bat, Stoinis is a useful allrounder and bowled well to get 3/18.

Australia Playing 11

Travis Head, Matthew Short, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Timothy David, Aaron Hardie, Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff.

RSA vs AUS Toss Prediction

The pitch's history is quite balanced at the moment, but as Australia had great results batting first, it wouldn't be surprising if either captain chooses to bat first again in the second game.

Pitch and Conditions

The Kingsmead pitch seems to be favouring spinners and medium pace, as there is much more turn and movement in the first game than usual. The pitch typically sees games of around 150-160 runs in T20 games, but big scores of 226 like the first game don't happen so often.

RSA vs AUS Betting Tips

The first game was a great chance for South Africa to win, but now things are even tougher. The Rajabets odds for South Africa are quite intriguing, but honestly, we trust Australia far more right now based on the first game.

If you feel like taking a big chance then bet on South Africa, but we feel like it’s wasting money and that Australia is the better and safer choice, even if the odds aren’t too exciting. We expect Marsh and David to continue their great batting, and even if Zampa returns, he and Stoinis should be effective bowlers.

Bet on Australia to win.

Williams has only bowled in 7 T20I innings, but he's proved useful so far with 12 wickets and a desire to prove himself. His 3/44 was really impressive, and it's not the first time that he's had 3 wickets in a match. The odds are great so jump on this chance now.

Hendricks is averaging 32.00 in T20I games, and he was excellent in the first match with 56 runs. He's arguably the best batter on the team and is likely to score big as an opener. He's one of the few trustworthy batters on this team.

    Australia Top Batter: Tim David

Although Marsh was great with 92 runs, his odds for the second game aren't very exciting and there's not much of a return. We suggest David, as he was also fantastic with 64 runs and his odds can get you a huge return. David is a big hitter and averages 38.28 in T20I games, so take this opportunity.

To Score 50+ Runs: Mitchell Marsh

Marsh has pretty good odds for this, and it's not impossible that he could score a half-century yet again. He might not score 92* again, but as he averages 31.83 in T20I games, it's a good bet that he'll score at least over 50 runs.
