The Royals will head into this match as table-toppers and firm among the title favourites. They won three matches in a rowbefore collecting their first defeat, but have since added two more wins. One more victory will all but secure them a berth in the next stage of the 2024 SA20.
They played their last match without Proteas batter David Miller, who was sidelined by injury at the time. It will be interesting to see if he is match fit and returns to the XI for this fixture. Paarl might not want to tinker with a winning XI despite Miller's availability.
England recruit Jos Buttler is the Royals' leading run-scorer in this season's SA20. He has hit 245 runs in six innings at an average of 49 and strike rate of almost 150. These are impressive numbers from the Royals opener, who has had solid support from countryman Jason Roy at the top of the order.
Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is the 2024 tournament's top wicket-taker overall with 11 in six innings. But he has not necessarily shouldered the burden alone for the Royals. The Super Giants debuted Proteas batter Tony de Zorzi and played Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad in their previous fixture. They brought a new dynamic to the XI, which looked well balanced. Durban might retain both for this match, or replace either specialist with an all-rounder.
After losing West Indies recruit Nicholas Pooran to the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates, Durban can centre their batting resources around opener Matthew Breetzke, middle-order kingpin Heinrich Klaasen and all-rounder Jon-Jon Smuts. This is a formidable trio, indeed.
England seamer Reece Topley is the Super Giants' most prolific bowler this season with eight wickets. Captain and spinner Keshav Maharaj has seven. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has averaged two wickets across his first three matches for Durban since joining the SA20 from the Big Bash League.
