NZ vs BAN Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 29, 2023

New Zealand and Bangladesh will contest the second T20I of their three-match series. Bangladesh have an early series lead after victory in the first match earlier this week.

There will be plenty to bet on before and during this match. Let's see what the cricket odds and betting markets have in store.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh head-to-head record

New Zealand have three wins to Bangladesh's two in their last five T20I meetings. Prior to victory earlier this week, Bangladesh had not beaten New Zealand in this format of the international game since 2021.

NZ vs BAN Team Previews

New Zealand

The home side were caught off guard by a motivated visiting XI in the series opener. The Kiwis were limited to a final total of 134 for nine before the Tigers reached the 135-run target with five wickets down and eight deliveries to spare. Bangladesh's victory was even more convincing than the scoreline suggests.

The Black Caps were in all sorts of trouble at one for three and then 20 for four. All-rounders Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner provided an air of respectability with 48 and 23, respectively, and could be key here again - especially if the top order misfires again.

Santner and Tim Southee were the pick of the New Zealand bowlers in defeat in the first match. Both completed figures of one for 16 in four overs. The spinner complemented the seamer well - and vice versa. The same could happen again, if conditions are conducive for both bowlers.

The Kiwis were beaten by opposition several positions inferior in the International Cricket Council's rankings for T20I teams recently. Now, instead of being able to wrap up a series victory, they're going to have to avoid defeat before trying again later this week.

New Zealand Playing 11

Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Ben Sears.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh have some decent momentum going into this match. They won the last match of the recent ODI series against New Zealand and now have an early lead in the T20I affair. If they win this match, they'll complete a historic T20I series victory away from home.

Litton Das steered the successful pursuit in Napier with an unbeaten 42 not out. He effectively ensured Bangladesh were not overly troubled by a tricky target. Das has plenty of experience and knowledge about batting in foreign conditions. Bangladesh can lean on him for another big contribution here.

Mahedi Hasan was named player of the match after the series opener. The spinner opened the bowling and took two key wickets. Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell were troubled by pace off the ball early on. This same tactic could serve Hasan and company well again.

Bangladesh are showing that they can thrive, not just survive, without the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and a couple of other experienced campaigners. Another win here would again show they really mean business ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh Playing 11

Soumya Sarkar, Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shamim Hossain, Towhid Hridoy, Afif Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Rishad Hossain.

NZ vs BAN Toss Prediction

The Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui will be the venue for this match. No team has ever won a T20I batting second here.

Eight teams have won the match after batting first at this ground. It's probable the team to win the toss this time will choose to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The last three first-innings totals in T20I cricket at this ground have been 238, 191 and 163. This is a relatively high-scoring venue and a first-innings score of 180-plus can be considered competitive.

It's well worth playing two specialist spinners here. Rain is forecast in the area for the days leading into the match, but not necessarily on matchday. This could affect conditions, with the playing surface perhaps a bit underprepared.

NZ vs BAN Betting Tips

New Zealand have homeground advantage and plenty of playing resources to bounce back here. But they will be properly challenged by buoyed Bangladesh.

Bet on favourites New Zealand to win this match at odds of 1.37. Bangladesh are priced as 3.20 underdogs.

Southee has a lot of experience in T20I cricket and will know the conditions at the Bay Oval well. Whether he opens the bowling or bowls with the older ball, this veteran seamer is primed to be his country's top bowler in this match.

Hasan would have understood a lot about conditions in NZ after the series opener. Conditions here will be different to what he experienced at McLean Park, but Hasan remains a good pick as Bangladesh's top bowler at relatively long odds in this market.
