NOSW vs WFW Team Previews

Northern Superchargers Women

The Welsh Fire's fortunes took a remarkable turn in the 2023 season, bouncing back from their bottom finishes in the first two campaigns. Fueled by the impressive batting performances of England's Tammy Beaumont and Sophia Dunkley, along with the fast-paced deliveries from former South African seamer Shabnim Ismail, the team based in Cardiff has achieved a total of five wins this season. This surpasses their combined victories of three from both 2021 and 2022.

Leading the Fire's run-scoring statistics is Tammy Beaumont with 253 runs in seven innings. Notably, she scored 118 runs in a single match against Trent Rockets, achieving the highest individual total in the competition's history. Sophia Dunkley, a recent addition from the inaugural women's draft earlier in the year, has contributed with 224 runs. She has consistently reached at least 24 runs and secured two half-centuries, forming a strong opening partnership with Beaumont.

On the bowling front, Shabnim Ismail has secured two instances of taking three wickets in a match, including a remarkable hat-trick during the last three deliveries against Birmingham Phoenix. This incredible feat sealed a thrilling three-run victory as Ismail dismissed Tess Flintoff, Erin Burns, and Issy Wong, with Phoenix needing just four runs from three balls.

Welsh Fire Women

Following their fifth and sixth-place finishes in the opening two seasons of The Hundred, the Superchargers made an impressive leap to second position this term, trailing the table leaders, Southern Brave, by a mere two points. Hollie Armitage's team surged ahead by winning five of their last six group matches, culminating in a league-ending triumph over the Fire. During this match, Marie Kelly's unbeaten 69-run performance, combined with the efforts of Kate Cross, Grace Ballinger, and Alice Davidson-Richards, who shared six wickets, secured their victory.

Emerging Australian talent, Phoebe Litchfield, aged 20, showcased her skills by scoring 40 runs from 26 balls against the Fire. This propelled her to the top of the tournament's run-scoring charts with a total of 266 runs. Litchfield's consistent contributions spanned across all but two of her eight innings, with her only setbacks being a duck against the Brave and a score of one against the Manchester Originals. Meanwhile, her compatriot, Georgia Wareham, demonstrated her prowess in leg-spin bowling, accumulating a notable tally of 11 wickets. Although commendable, this achievement was outshone by Georgia Adams of the Brave, who secured 16 wickets.

Among the overseas players, Jemimah Rodrigues from India has yet to make a significant impact in the tournament. On the other hand, the newly called-up England player and wicketkeeper-batter, Bess Heath, faced consecutive ducks. However, contributions from Armitage and Kelly with the bat, along with the supporting roles of Davidson-Richards, Cross, Linsey Smith, and Lucy Higham with the ball, have been vital to the team's performance.

NOSW vs WFW Betting Tips

An intense battle is on the horizon between the Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire, vying for a spot in the Women's Hundred final. Their sole encounter during the group stage saw the Superchargers emerge victorious by a margin of 16 runs. However, in a high-stakes knockout match like this, Welsh Fire seems to hold the advantage, thanks to their experienced international players who excel under pressure. These players, including Tammy Beaumont with her batting prowess, Shabnim Ismail's bowling skills, and Hayley Matthews' all-round abilities, have consistently demonstrated their capacity to perform when it truly counts.

Although the Northern Superchargers possess a strong top order and won't be an easy opponent to overcome, Welsh Fire appears to have the edge, poised to do just enough to secure a spot in the final. If successful, they will set the stage for a showdown against the Southern Brave at the iconic Lord's cricket ground. Bet on Welsh Fire to emerge on top here.
