MLRW vs ADSW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Oct 23, 2023
Both the Strikers and Renegades have played their first game of the season, but while the Renegades had a close loss to the Heat, the Strikers absolutely crushed the Stars by 148 runs.
The Renegades have had several changes to the squad that finished in 7th place last season, namely the inclusion of Jess Duffin and Tammy Beaumont, and the departure of Shabnim Ismail and Carly Leeson. Unfortunately, significant injuries to Sophie Molineux (ACL) and Tayla Vlaeminck (shoulder) mean they’ll miss the entire season. Check out the changes made to the Strikers squad here.
Melbourne Renegades Women vs. Adelaide Strikers Women will take place at the Junction Oval, Melbourne, on October 23rd.
MLRW vs ADSW Team Previews
Melbourne Renegades Women
The Renegades did well enough in their first game to only lose by 6 runs against the Heat, but for a team missing Sophie Molineux and quick Tayla Vlaeminck for the entire season, they’ll have to do better.
There was some excitement in the first game of this season with Hayley Matthews (20 runs) and Harmanpreet Kaur (31) returning to the team. Matthews, especially, is one of the world’s most entertaining T20 players, and she, Kaur, and Beaumont will have a lot of strong batting weight on their shoulders. Matthews scored 253 runs last season, but she should manage more this time around.
There will be a few bowling question marks, as Molineux and Ismail took the most wickets last season with 11, but neither will play for the Renegades this season. Wareham is thankfully back after missing last season due to injury, so she’ll be a helpful spinner along with allrounder Matthews (who took 3/30 in the Heat loss).
Melbourne Renegades Women Playing 11
Hayley Matthews, Tammy Beaumont, Sarah Coyte, Josephine Dooley, Jess Duffin, Ella Hayward, Harmanpreet Kaur, Erica Kershaw, Georgia Prestwidge, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb.
Adelaide Strikers Women
The Strikers are clearly still in championship mode after an unbelievable demolition of the Stars. After making a solid total of 177 thanks largely to Katie Mack’s 86 runs, the Strikers simply took apart the Stars in the second innings and bowled them out for a measly 29 runs.
Adelaide’s opening pair of Mack and Wolvaardt is going to be something special this season, as they combined for 133 runs (14 fours from Mack). McGrath was a dependable scorer last season with 244 runs, and she’ll likely have to do more now that Dottin is gone, but her effort of 34 runs here is promising.
It’s tough to say if it was good bowling from the Strikers or terrible batting from the Stars, but either, we saw great performances from Wellington (3 wickets for 4 runs) and Schutt (3 wickets for 3 runs). Those two players are certainly going to be the most important, but McGrath (2/2) is clearly an allrounder that will play a major role.
Adelaide Strikers Women Playing 11
Katie Mack, Laura Wolvaardt, Tahlia McGrath, Bridget Patterson, Maddie Penna, Danielle Gibson, Georgia Adams, Amanda Jade Wellington, Jemma Barsby, Megan Schutt, Anesu Mushangwe.
MLRW vs ADSW Toss Prediction

Pitch and Conditions
The Junction Oval pitch is great for batters, as the ball doesn’t move too much on the surface, and shot selection is quite dependable and consistent. There’s a good level of bounce that batters will love for finding the boundaries.
MLRW vs ADSW Betting Tips
The 10Cric odds are certainly more exciting for the Renegades, but we still feel like the Strikers are in too good form. We want to see a bit more from the Renegades until they appear trustworthy. The teams typically match up fairly well, as last season went 1-1 between the two. Even if Matthews and Kaur look like a good batting pair, we think that the Strikers will be too powerful here.
Bet on the Adelaide Strikers to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
The Strikers had 24 fours in their first game, with 14 of those coming from Mack. While it might not happen like this in every game, it's a good indication that the Strikers are talented at finding the fence and have a lot of big hitters in their top 3 batters. The Renegades could struggle to find boundaries with great bowling from Adelaide.
It's a bit puzzling why Mack's odds are lower than McGrath or Wolvaardt, as Mack was a star for the team last season and also scored 86 runs in the first game. She's a powerful hitter and could certainly demolish spinners like Matthews and Wareham.
It's hard to ignore those odds, and this is a batting pitch based on previous games. Either Matthews or Mack has the ability to make 3 quick runs if they can hit the ball just inches from the boundary.
