In the first one-day international, Bangladesh set a target of 246 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In reply to this score, Ireland was 65 for 3 when the rain gods came down and halted play. The game had to be called off at seven pm local time as the ground was not considered to be fit enough to even play a 20-over match. The Irish bowling attack did a decent job as they restricted the Bangladesh team to a reasonable total on this track. For Ireland, Josh Little picked up 3 wickets for 61 runs. Other bowlers that did a good job were Mark Adair and Graham Hume who picked up 2 wickets each.

Although they did a fair job with the ball things were not simple for the hosts in the game. The Irish batting charge did not get off on the right track despite good efforts from Paul Stirling. He succeeded in hitting two fours and one six however, the tight angles bowled by Shoriful Islam got him to cut a delivery to the backward point fielder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. At the other end, we got to see a fine opening spell from Hassan Mahmud. He got a delivery to nip back and it went through the defenses of Andrew Balbirnie to bowl him.

In the 14th over of the Irish inning, Harry Tector was dropped by Taijul Islam. But he picked up the second chance offered to him by Stephen Doheny. Doheny had to struggle a lot during his innings of 17 runs from 39 balls. The Irish top order could not counter-attack the Bangladesh bowlers. After the exit of Doheny, the game had to be called off as it became pretty dark and rain started pouring with covers being brought onto the field.

Bangladesh

Mushfiqur Rahim was playing this game on his 36th birthday. He scored a half-century for his team in front of a 3000-plus crowd that had gathered and consisted mostly of Bangla fans. Apart from Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto also scored 44 runs. However, the visitors could not put up a huge total on the board. The Bangladesh inning was developed around the half-century scored by Mushfiqur Rahim and the supporting role played by Shanto. They did lose a couple of early wickets as Little got rid of Litton Das with a terrific yorker for a golden duck.

After the early loss of Litton Das, the visitors had to endure another blow with Tamim Iqbal being caught for 14 runs as the left-hander hit through a wide ball to the point fielder. Bangladesh had an opportunity to recover in the middle overs however, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shanto could not convert the good starts into big innings. Hume got rid of the dependable Shakib Al Hasan when he went for a wild shot. Shanto appeared to be in great touch but he hit a Curtis Campher delivery straight down the throat of Mark Adair.

Shanto struck 7 boundaries in his 66-ball stay at the wicket. He was also part of a half-century stand with Hridoy for the 4th wicket. But Hridoy also got out for 27 runs providing a second wicket to Hume. The Bangladesh team could have gotten into more trouble however, Tector dropped a simple opportunity from Mushfiqur off the bowling of Campher when the batsman was on 19 runs. They rebuilt the innings again as Mushfiqur added 65 runs for the 6th wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. This laid a good platform for Bangladesh to go for a solid finish. But they could not convert the opportunity as many batters kept losing wickets.
