Ireland

Bangladesh succeeded in chasing down a massive target set by Ireland in the second one-day international played in Chelmsford. They won the game with 3 balls and 3 wickets to spare. The game was delayed by 2 hours and 15 minutes because of rain however, Ireland succeeded in posting 319 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their quota of 45 overs. This inning was largely built around a superb 140 from 113 balls by Harry Tector. He smashed 10 sixes and 7 fours in his inning. He was pretty well supported by Dockrell with an unbeaten score of 74 runs.

The Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal asked Hasan Mahmud to bowl first. He removed the Irish openers Stephen Doheny and Paul Stirling quickly. Paul Stirling was caught when he inside-edged a delivery in the 1st over and Doheny followed providing a catch to Mehidy fielding at point. Harry Tector added 98 runs for the 3rd wicket with the skipper Andrew Balbirnie. The skipper did not appear to be in full flow though. Tector on the other hand appeared to be in full flow latching onto the short balls efficiently.

After Balbirnie got out after scoring 42 runs, other batters such as Lorcan Tucker and Curtis Campher fell quickly. Tector was going great guns at the other end though. He was helped by Dockrell at the other end of this period. Tector hit 10 sixes in the match which is a new record for Ireland bettering Balbirnie's earlier record of 8 sixes against Afghanistan in 2019. Tector finally got out for 140 runs in the 40th over of the innings to Ebadot Hossain. The only Bangladesh bowler that stood out in the Ireland inning was Mahmud.

Bangladesh

The veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim managed to maintain his cool during the death overs as he shepherded the last portion of the Bangla chase with the tail-enders. As 4 runs were required from the last 4 balls Mushfiqur hit a double-handed scoop that ran to the boundary. Mark Adair bowled a no-ball on the delivery before and he had to try and contain the rampaging batter as Bangladesh received a free hit as a result of the no-ball. During the Bangladesh chase, Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed a sublime hundred to set up a successful chase.

Shanto scored 117 runs from 93 balls with 3 sixes and 12 fours picking the team up from a difficult start. He added 61 runs with Shakib Al Hasan and 131 runs with Towhid Hridoy who scored a significant inning of 68 runs. However, Ireland had set a big target and it was left to Mushfiqur to take the Bangladesh team to a win by batting around the tailenders. Taijul Islam also made a significant contribution but the Bangla team had to survive a couple of hairy moments. Mushfiqur was almost run out during the 42nd over. Then an edge from Tailjul hit Paul Stirling in the right cheek.

Bangladesh was off to a poor start during their inning when the skipper Tamim Iqbal chipped Mark Adair straight to the square leg position in the 4th over. After hitting a couple of fours and a six Litton Das edged Graham Hume thereby reducing Bangladesh to 40 for 2 in the 10th over. During the partnership that set up the chase, Hridoy was quietly doing his job with Shanto going great guns. He worked the ball into gaps with backfoot dabs and punches on the leg side. Shanto reached his hundred in the 34th over. A few wickets fell after that but Bangladesh was not to be denied as they chased the target successfully.
