Hobart Hurricanes Women

After a string of forgettable performances, the Hobart Hurricanes finished in the top 4 during the last season. However, they were defeated by Brisbane Heat in the Eliminator amd failed to make it deeper into the knockouts.

Nevertheless, they have put together a strong team for the current season and will look to have a better outcome.

The team has retained some of its key players from the last season, including Lizelle Lee, Heather Graham, and Elyse Villani. The batting line-up has received a bit of a dent as the team had to part ways with its top-scorer from the last season, Mignon du Preez.

All-rounder Rachel Trenaman has also been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The Hurricanes have picked up uncapped English opener Bryony Smith during the draft and that will add a bit of firepower to the batting.

The bowling was one of the weaker areas for the team, particularly the seam attack. The inclusion of Shabnim Ismail in the squad addresses that concern as she will join Nicola Carey with the new ball. The spin attack consists of Maisy Gibson and Molly Strano. 

Perth Scorchers Women

The Scorchers had a disappointing outing in the last season as the team managed to win just 6 of the 14 matches they played. As a result, the team finished 6th on the points table and failed to qualify for the knockouts.

The squad has seen plenty of upheaval since the end of the last season and the team management has gone in with a mix of experienced and young players. Sophie Devine was retained during the draft picks and will be leading the side for the 4th consecutive season.

She, along with Beth Mooney, will be the key batter for the team. The Scorchers have picked up England’s wicket-keeper Amy Jones as well as all-rounders Lisa Griffith and Chloe Ainsworth in a bid to strengthen the middle order.

Danni Wyatt, who has a draft pick, has since withdrawn from the entire season and the word has it that she might be replaced by Nat Sciver-Brunt during the later stages of the tournament.

The seam attack will be one of the biggest strengths of the Scorchers as Stella Campbell joins the likes of Piepa Cleary and Tanelae Peschel. Lilly Mills will join Alana King in the spin department.
