ENG vs NZ Team Previews

England

The humiliating 3-0 loss against Bangladesh earlier this year seems to be a distant memory for England now. They are in prime form and have completely dominated the proceedings in the first two matches.

Johnny Bairstow and Will Jacks gave the team a brisk start in the last match to set the tempo for a big total. After losing Jacks and Dawid Malan in quick succession, Bairstow was joined by Harry Brook and the two Yorkshire batsmen added 131 runs from just 65 balls.

Harry Brook is in brilliant form and seems to be playing with a vengeance after missing the ticket to India for the ODI World Cup. The excellent form of the top-order batsmen means that there isn’t much for the likes of Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone to do lower down the order.

Domestic pace sensation Gus Atkinson made his T20I debut on Friday and impressed one and all with his consistent pace and accurate line and length. He regularly clocked over 90 mph and picked up 4 wickets for just 20 runs. Brydon Carse, who is tipped as an average bowler in the ODI format, has adapted well to the shortest format, picking up 4 wickets in 2 matches.

The all-rounders provide England with plenty of flexibility in the bowling and the batting orders and will be one of their biggest strength.

New Zealand

New Zealand will be very disappointed with the way things have panned out in the first two matches. Despite picking up some of the best available T20 talent, the visitors have surrendered meekly and now face the threat of a 3rd series loss in the last 6 bilaterals.

The opening pair of Finn Allen and Devon Conway, which played well during the Hundred, have struggled to replicate their success on this tour. Their poor form means that there will be added pressure on the middle-order batsmen to perform well.

Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips will be the key batsmen during the middle overs, while Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell will look to provide a late flourish. The bowling too hasn’t been that great. Ish Sodhi is the leading wicket-taker with 3 wickets, while Tim Southee has 2 against his name.

They have received very little support from Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, and Adam Milne, with the latter yet to take a wicket on this tour.

ENG vs NZ Toss Prediction

Teams batting first have enjoyed an upper hand in the T20I matches played at Edgbaston, winning 15 of the 24 matches played so far.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Edgbaston is considered to be batting-friendly. There is a good amount of pace and bounce on the surface making it easier for the batsmen to play the shots. However, the surface does slow down a bit as the match progresses. The ball grips the surface and there will be some spin too. Anything over 160 will be difficult to chase.

The weather is expected to be clear and pleasant with temperatures hovering around the 20-degree mark.
