Bihar

The Bihar outfit played their last game in the SMAT 2023 season against Assam at the same venue of Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on 17th October. Assam batted first in this game to score 200 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. The Bihar team made a valiant attempt to chase down this target by scoring 195 runs from their quota of 20 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. However, the Bihar outfit fell short by a margin of 5 runs in the end. Most of the bowlers from the Bihar team were taken to the cleaners by the Assam batters.

Suraj Kashyap was the peak of the bowlers for Bihar picking up 2 wickets for 34 runs from his 4 overs. Some of the other bowlers such as Amod Yadav, Sakibul Gani, and Nawaj Khan picked up a wicket apiece. But the Bihar opening ball bowler Abhijit Saket had to endure a lot of punishment and went for 43 runs from his 3 overs. the most economical bowler on the scene for Bihar was Sakibul Gani who gave away just 21 runs from 3 overs during the carnage at the other end. The Bihar team management will be expecting the bowlers to be more frugal in their efforts in this game.

During their run chase, the Bihar team lost an early wicket of Babul Kumar for 6 runs. But there was a superb partnership between the wicket-keeper batsman for Bihar, Bipin Saurabh, and Sakibul Gani that realized 137 runs for Bihar. Bipin Saurabh hit 85 runs from 52 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes while Sakibul Gani scored 65 runs from 40 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours. But the new batters arriving at the crease after these two were not able to accelerate the scoring after this and in the end, Bihar fell short by a thin margin of 5 runs. Bihar has not done too well in the competition so far and has had to languish in second position from the last at the moment. They have lost both of their games played in the 2023 season of SMAT and have a terrible net run rate of -0.958.  

Kerala Knights

Kerala has had a much better run in the competition thus far winning their first couple of games. They are currently positioned in the second position with 8 points from two games and they have a net run rate of 0.900. Kerala played their last league stage game against Services on 17 October 2023. Batting first, Kerala scored 189 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Services scored 188 runs for the loss of 5 wickets from their 20 overs to hand the Kerala team a win by a wafer-thin margin of 1 run.

During their first inning, Kerala lost both their openers early. The openers Rohan Kunnummal and Mahammed Azharudden were back in the pavilion early on in the innings. But the Keralan Vishnu Vinod hit a brilliant hundred scoring 109 runs from 62 balls 4 sixes and 15 fours. He remained not out with a century and together with Salman Nizar took the score to an imposing one. Nizar scored 42 runs from 24 balls with 5 fours and one six. The skipper Sanju Samson scored a run-a-ball 22 to help the score.

Almost all the Services’ top and middle order contributed runs to the total. All of them got starts but none of them could convert them into good scores. All the Kerala bowlers picked up wickets and the same story again. None of them could pick more than one wicket in the Services innings. Vinod Kumar was the most economical bowler on the scene for Kerala conceding 31 runs from 4 overs. But most of the other Kerala bowlers went for a lot of runs.
