BAN vs NZ Team Previews

Bangladesh

After a disappointing outing at the Asia Cup, Bangladesh’s woes continue as they suffered their first home defeat against New Zealand in more than a decade. With this being the last ODI before the start of the ODI World Cup, this is the last chance for Bangladesh to try out its preferred combination of players.

There are some positives that the home team would like to take from the 2nd ODI despite the loss. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah, who are back in the squad after a long hiatus, appeared to be in good form and were the top two scorers for the team amongst a mediocre batting effort.

However, the form of other top and middle-order batsmen including Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das is a big concern. The duo will likely be replaced by Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim. Mahedi Hasan Miraz makes a comeback to the squad, adding depth to the batting.

Bangladesh has also included Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed for this match, giving them valuable game time. Nasum Ahmed will likely retain his spot in the spin department.

New Zealand

New Zealand will be delighted by the fact that they were able to crack the Bangladesh jinx, and that too with a second-string team. With some of the key players slated to join them in India, the Black Caps will be confident of putting up a good show.

New Zealand didn’t have the best of starts as it lost the top 3 batsmen inside the first 8 overs. However, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell stabilized the innings by putting up a 95-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Some valuable contributions from all-rounders Rachin Ravindra, Cole McConchie, Ish Sodhi, and Kyle Jamieson saw the visitors post a respectable total on a tricky wicket.

However, it was a disciplined bowling effort from them that stole the show. Ish Sodhi put up a brilliant show with the ball, claiming the best figures for a New Zealand spinner in ODIs to claim a six for to rip through the opposition batting. His performance is of particular importance as Sodhi is the lone specialist spinner in the World Cup squad.

The pace trio of Trent Boult, Jamieson, and Lockie Ferguson kept the pressure on by drying up the runs and will look to put up a similar performance on Tuesday.

BAN vs NZ Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Shere Bangla Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on. The surface has a green tinge and some grass. The seamers will get some movement early on. The batsmen will need to work hard to get their runs. The pitch will slow down as the game progresses, bringing the spinners into play. Anything over 260 will be tricky to chase. The skies are expected to be a bit cloudy but there is no forecast of rain.

The weather will remain warm and humid.

BAN vs NZ Betting Tips

While Bangladesh did lose the last match, we expect them to bounce back here. With the return of some of the key players to the squad, the hosts have plenty of firepower to take on New Zealand. That said, the latter will not let them have an easy win.

Bet on Bangladesh to win.
