BAN vs NZ Team Previews

Bangladesh

Despite resting some of their key players, Bangladesh has a pretty strong team and will fancy their chances against New Zealand.

The return of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar bolsters the top order, which already has some quality batsmen like Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy was in good form during the latter half of the Asia Cup and will hope to keep up the good work. Nurul Hasan, who is the stand-in wicket-keeper for Mushfiqur Rahim doesn’t have much ODI experience but has a good chance to hone his skills.

Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib started well with the new ball in the last match. Mustafizur was particularly impressive and picked up a couple of wickets inside the first 10 overs.

Bangladesh also has a potent spin attack consisting of Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan, while the inclusion of all-rounder Mahmudullah provides an extra option during the middle overs.

Bangladesh Playing 11

Litton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Khaled Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud.

New Zealand

Just like their opponents, New Zealand is also missing some of its top players for this tour as they have been rested before the upcoming World Cup. Only 5 players from the current squad will be participating in the marquee event.

The visitors will be disappointed with the way they batted in the first ODI. Finn Allem and Chad Bowes were both dismissed within the first 10 overs and that too for single-digit scores. Will Young and Henry Nicholls helped rebuild the innings with a 97-run stand but both were dismissed within a span of 15 deliveries to leave New Zealand in a perilous situation before the rain gods intervened.

While they would want to improve on the batting, the Black Caps’ biggest strength lies in its pace attack, made up of Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Kyle Jamieson. Ish Sodhi is in good form of late and will have the support of all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie in the spin department.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Mirpur is a bit tricky and isn’t the easiest to bat on. The ball tends to stick to the surface and offers plenty of turn and bounce for the spinners. The seamers too have enjoyed plenty of success here over the last couple of years. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 250. The pitch should get easier to bat as the match progresses.

The skies are likely to stay overcast and there is a forecast for rain which can also lead to a shortened match.

BAN vs NZ Betting Tips

Both teams are missing some of the key players and we can expect a well-fought contest. However, looking at the way both teams played in the first ODI and also at the recent records, we feel that the home team has an edge here.

Bet on Bangladesh to win.

As seen in the last match, New Zealand’s top-order batting isn’t in the best of forms amd struggled to score runs. On the other hand, Bangladesh has quite a few quality batsmen up at the top and we can expect them to put up a good show.

The pitch at Mirpur isn’t the easiest to bat on and as both teams miss out on some of their top batsmen, we think it is highly improbable that we will see a century being scored.

The seamers have been quite successful at the Shere Bangla Stadium over the last few years. Mustafizur has a good record here and has picked up 51 wickets in his 26 matches on this ground. We are therefore backing him to pick up at least 2 wickets.
