BAN vs NZ Team Previews

Bangladesh

Bangladesh will be pretty disappointed with the way things panned out during the recent Asia Cup. While they did register a consolation victory against India during the last fixture, the overall performance was well below par.

Bangladesh has decided to rest some of its key players, including Shakib Al-Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taskin Ahmed. It is a conscious decision to protect them from injuries ahead of the big event. Litton Das will lead the team in Shakib’s absence and will look to test the bench strength.

The biggest news for the team is the return of Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah. Soumya Sarkar makes a comeback too and is likely to open the batting alongside uncapped Zakir Hasan, while Towhid Hridoy and Mahedi Hasan may bat in the middle order.

Coming to the pace bowling, Mushfiqur Rahman will lead a relatively inexperienced attack consisting of Tanzim Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Khaled Ahmed, while Nasum Ahmed is the lone specialist spinner.

New Zealand

Just like the hosts, New Zealand has chosen to rest some of its key players and has sent a second-string team to Bangladesh as it looks to build a team with the future in mind.

Dean Foxcroft, who has made quite a name for himself in the domestic circuit, has earned his maiden ODI call and may open the batting alongside Finn Allen. Tom Blundell, Henry Nicholls, and Chad Bowes will need to fill in for some of the regular batsmen who are rested.

Rachin Ravindra and Will Young have done well in their recent outings and will play an important role in the middle order. Trent Boult, who just `unretired´ himself for the ODIs, gets more game time and will lead the pace attack. His role will be especially important as Tim Southee picked up an injury in England.

He will be supported by Adam Milne and Kyle Jamieson, while Ish Sodhi, who has been in good form of late, will lead the spin attack.

BAN vs NZ Toss Prediction

Teams batting second enjoy a slight advantage on this ground. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Shere Bangla Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on as the average first-inning score on this ground is around 230. The seamers will get some movement early on in the match but the surface does even out in the second innings. The spinners will play an important role.

The weather will remain overcast and there is ample chance of interruptions due to rain.

BAN vs NZ Betting Tips

Both teams have rested some of their key players and we can expect a good contest. However, we feel that New Zealand has a good chance of winning here thanks to its stronger batting and balanced bowling attack.

The visitors are likely to open with Finn Allen, who may be joined by Foxcroft or Nicholls. Either way, they have a strong opening pair which is capable of producing a good opening partnership.

Each of the last 7 ODIs played on this ground has seen over 15 wickets fall. Generally, the conditions in Bangladesh are a bit bowler-friendly and so both teams could end up losing a number of wickets. We are backing a similar outcome for this match.

The pitch at Mirpur isn’t the easiest to bat on and has an average run rate of 4.85. As both teams are missing some of the key batsmen, we think it will be difficult for them to find a big over.
