WI vs NL Match Preview

Kyle Mayers and Brandon King will once again open the batting for the West Indies here. Mayers, who was unable to get going in the first two matches finally managed to get some runs under his belt by scoring a half-century in the last match. West Indies’ biggest strength lies in its middle order.

Skipper Shai Hope has led his team from the front, scoring a century and a half-century in his 3 innings so far, and is the leading run-scorer for the team.  He has received good support from Nicholas Pooran. The other batsmen include all-rounders Jason Holder, Johnson Charles, and Roston Chase, all of whom are capable of scoring big runs.

The bowlers, especially the seamers, have done a decent job too. Alzarri Joseph and Keemo Paul have picked up 11 wickets between them, while Holder and Mayers have played a good supporting role. Akeal Hosein is the specialist spinner on the team and will be aided by Roston Chase.

The opening pair of Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd has done a good job for the Netherlands so far, providing them with solid starts. O’Dowd has been particularly impressive, scoring 2 half-centuries in his 3 innings, and is the leading run-scorer for the team.

Skipper Scott Edwards has led from the front, scoring important runs in the middle overs and keeping the innings together. The Netherlands does have a few other capable players in the middle order, including Bas De Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, and Wesley Barresi, but they haven’t been consistent enough and that could be a problem for the team.

Coming to the bowling, Logan van Beek, who had a relatively quiet tour so far, came back strongly in the last match, bowling his career-best figures of 4 wickets for 24 runs.

He will once again spearhead the pace attack along with Ryan Klein, with all-rounders De Leede and Vikramjit Singh chipping in. The spinners however have struggled as the likes of Shariz Ahmed and Aryan Dutt have failed to get going.

Weather Report

The weather is expected to remain clear with temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The surface at the Takashinga Sports Club is flat and hard and allows the batsmen to play their shots with ease. However, the pitch does seem to have become a bit two-paced, and bowlers bowling a good line and length will enjoy plenty of success. A score of around 250 is a par score here.

Notable stats

Max O’Dowd’s consistent performance

Max O’Dowd has been a consistent performer for the Netherlands at the top of the order. In his ODI career, he has scored 1034 runs at an average of 39.76 including 10 half-centuries.
