NOT vs LEI Match Preview

The opening pair of Alex Hales and Joe Clarke will look to give Nottinghamshire a brisk start here. The former made a strong start to the season but seems to have lost a bit of steam recently, coinciding with the team’s poor run.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Moores slammed a half-century in the last match, albeit for a losing cause, and will be seen in the middle order alongside Matthew Montgomery, Lyndon James, and Steven Mullaney. While Mullaney has struggled with the bat, his performance with the ball is better as he has picked up 12 wickets so far. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Jake Ball will once again lead the pace attack.

Both have some impressive numbers this season. The spin attack has got more teeth thanks to all-rounder Imad Wasim, who will feature alongside Matthew Carter.

Leicestershire has tried many combinations at the top of the order but that hasn’t had much of an impact on its performance. Peter Handscomb and Wiaan Mulder will likely open the batting here. Mulder hasn’t been in the best of forms, scoring just 223 runs in 11 innings.

Rishi Patel is the standout performer with the bat for Leicestershire, being the highest run-getter for them. He will feature in the middle order alongside Colin Ackermann, Nick Welch, and Lewis Hill. Louis Kimber has scored a couple of half-centuries and will add depth to the batting.

But perhaps a bigger letdown for Leicester has been its bowling as except for Callum Parkinson, none of the bowlers have bowled consistently, and the departure of their star spinner, Rehan Ahmed, has further dented the team’s arsenal.

Leicestershire will need to consider serious changes in the team before the next season.

Weather Report

The weather is likely to remain overcast with temperatures of below 20 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Trent Bridge Stadium is good to bat on and has hosted quite a few high-scoring encounters. The ball comes on nicely onto the bat and the batsmen will find it easy to play the shots. The average first-inning score here is around 185. The bowlers who bowl a disciplined line and length will be rewarded though, particularly the seamers.

Notable stats

Rishi Patel has been a consistent performer with the bat for Leicester. He has scored 353 runs at an average of 27.15 and a strike rate of 141.49.
