MI vs RR Match Preview

It has been a mediocre effort from the Mumbai Indians in all departments. The opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma hasn’t been consistent enough and Rohit Sharma in particular has been seen struggling to middle the ball on more than one occasion. There has been some talk of a minor niggle that Rohit Sharma is carrying and we may see him take a break.

Cameron Green and Tilak Varma have played a couple of good innings in the middle order, but the batsmen lower down have failed to capitalize. Surya Kumar Yadav has scored just 1 half-century in his 7 innings, and Tim David hasn’t been able to do justice to his role as a finisher.

There is absolutely no doubt about the batting talent in this lineup but it is time that we actuallys ee those performances on the field. With the bowling attack that MI has, the team always needs a socre that is 10-15 runs above par.

Talking about the bowling, Piyush Chawla has been the pick of the bowlers for them with 11 wickets. However, he is the only experienced spinner in the team and that has cost the team some important runs, especially in the middle overs.

Jason Behrendorff and Arjun Tendulkar are expected to open the bowling, while Riley Meredith and Hrithik Shokeen will fill in during the middle overs. This does not look like an IPL level bowling attack and will always remain a weakness for the team.

It has been an all-round effort by the Royals this season. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler make up for one of the most potent opening pairs in the league and will once again look to give the team a good start. Buttler has been a bit subdied in his previous few games and there may be a case for backing him as captain for your fantasy team in the next few games.

Buttler does not go too long without getting a big score. Also, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, and Shimron Hetmeyer are quite consistent in the middle order, while Dhruv Jurel has taken up the job of a finisher to perfection.

We think Samson is another one of those players that will enjoy the ball coming on to the bat in Mumbai and could score heavily in this match. Remember, no team has scored at a faster rate during the powerplay or has hit more sixes in IPL 2023 than the Rajasthan Royals.

In the bowling department, the spinners have expectedly done well so far. Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin is close behind with 11. Adam Zampa picked up 3 wickets in the game against CSK and played an important role to help his team win.

All three spinners are quite different from each other as well but we don't think Zampa will play in this match. He may be replaced by a fast-bowler (ideally Boult if fit).

As the team waits for Trent Boult to recover from a niggle, Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder are expected to lead the pace attack.

Weather Report

The temperature is likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius with quite a lot of humidity.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Mumbai has been known to be good to bat on and this season seems no different. The last match played here produced more than 400 runs. The ground isn’t the biggest in terms of dimensions and the outfield is quick too. The quicker bowlers will get some help here though.

Notable stats

Comeback Man: Piyush Chawla

The veteran spinner has emerged as one of the most reliable bowlers for the Mumbai Indians this season. He has taken 11 wickets in 7 matches and has a decent economy rate of 7.11 runs per over. Rohit Sharma seems to trust him in key situations and that will always put him in a nice position to pick wickets.

Team News

There are no updates regarding injuries from either side. Jofra Archer had left the camp for medical attention but is expected to join back in time for this match. Whether he is available for selection or not is something we will come to know later.

Dream11 Prediction

We are backing the Rajasthan Royals to win here. They are the more consistent of the two teams here and are much stronger in a player-to-player comparison with the Mumbai Indians. They have a much stronger batting line-up which can be the key here.

Jos Buttler: Buttler has an excellent record against the Mumbai Indians. In his 7 innings against them, Buttler has scored 467 runs, including a century and 4 half-centuries, and has a strike rate of 155.67.
