DC vs RCB Match Preview

The batting has been a big letdown for the Capitals this season as except for David Warner, none of the top and middle-order batsmen have been able to score consistently. The likes of Phil Salt, Prithvi Shaw, Rilee Rossouw, and Sarfaraz Khan have failed to make a big impact on the proceedings so far.

Salt and Rossouw have had a quiet IPL but on their day, they are extremely destructive players. One of these days they will start striking the ball well and a leave the team in front of themcompletely dumbfounded!

Axar Patel has shown good determination lower down the order and is the second-highest run-getter in the team, which speaks volumes about the failure of regular batsmen. Aman Hakim Khan scored a gritty half-century in the last match and his 53-run partnership with Ripal Patel for the 7th wicket was the key for Delhi Capitals as they defeated the mighty Gujarat Titans in their latest encounter.

It was an equally inspiring performance by the seamers, especially Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma, as they defended a modest total of 130.

Kuldeep Yadav will also play an important role here as he is the leading wicket-taker for the Capitals this season and is also very economical. His role on a slow pitch, against a team that does not enjoy facing a lot of spin, is going to be absolutely vital.

The Royal Challengers have one of the strongest opening pairs of the league in the form of Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli. Together, they have given the team several good starts and will be looking to do so again here. Glenn Maxwell has done well in the number-3 slot.

This is where 70% of their runs have come from so far. A lack of support from the middle order leaves RCB vulnerable. If Faf, Kohli, and Maxwell have a great day, they look unstoppable but if they get out cheaply, the team appears to be imbalanced.

Kohli has grown up playing cricket at the Kotla and he also has a good record against DC. He could be someone to watch out for in this contest.

The batsmen lower down haven’t been that consistent and it is difficult to trust them.

Dinesh Kartik, Mahipal Lomror, and Shahbaz Ahmed have all struggled to score runs. In such a case, the failure of the top order is likely to have a cascading effect on the team. RCB will rely on its strong seam attack to deliver the goods here.

Mohammed Siraj has been the pick of the bowlers with 15 wickets and has received good support from Harshal Patel, who has 10 against his name. However, the latter has been pretty expensive, especially at the death.

Wanindu Hasaranga and Karn Sharma have bowled well in the middle overs while Josh Hazlewood, who made an excellent debut in the last match, fits in as the 5th bowler.

Weather Report

The temperature is likely to remain below 30 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is balanced and provides an even contest between the bat and the ball. The ball tends to keep a bit low and stops a bit, and the spinners will get some help here. There is hardly grass on the pitch and quicker bowlers will need to be disciplined with their line and length.

Notable stats

Kuldeep Yadav’s Consistent Bowling

Kuldeep Yadav has been the most consistent performer for the Delhi Capitals with the ball. He is their leading wicket-taker with 8 wickets and has a miserly economy rate of 6.74 runs per over.

We are backing the Royal Challengers Bangalore to win here. They have played far better cricket compared to their opponents and also enjoy a significant advantage when it comes to recent head-to-head encounters.

Top Picks

Axar Patel: Axar Patel has played an important role in whatever success the Capitals have achieved this season. He has scored 238 runs so far and has also picked up 7 wickets.

Faf Du Plessis: Du Plessis is the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 466 runs in 9 matches. He has scored 5 half-centuries and has a strike rate of 159.58.

Karn Sharma: Karn Sharma has played just 4 matches this season but has already picked up 7 wickets. He has picked up 2 wickets in 3 of his 4 outings and we expect another good spell from him here. If the surface is slow, then Karn Sharma could be in important differentiator in this match.
