DC vs GT Match Preview
Skipper David Warner will be disappointed with the performance of his star-studded batting line-up in the opening game because as many as 4 of the top 7 batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores. Warner himself scored a gritty half-century and his opening partner Prithvi Shaw appeared to be in good touch.
The team will bank on Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, and Sarfaraz Khan, who were in excellent form in the lead-up to this tournament, to play a good inning in the middle order. The Capitals have a long batting line-up thanks to the presence of Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, and Aman Khan.
Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Chetan Sakariya make up for a good seam attack, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are the two specialist spinners on the team.
Shubhman Gill was in prime form in the months leading up to the current season of the IPL and has carried that here too, as he scored a blazing half-century in the opening match. He, along with Wriddhiman Saha, scored some quick runs during the Powerplay until the latter got out to a foolish shot. Saha will hope to put up a better performance here.
Matthew Wade is likely to get a chance in this game. Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar haven’t been in the best of forms of late, which can be a cause of concern.
However, on the positive side, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan add some depth to the batting. Mohammad Shami will once again lead the new-ball attack for the team and will have skipper Hardik Pandya as well as Alzarri Joseph and debutante Joshua Little to support him.
The team does lack bite in the spin department as Rashid Khan is the only world-class slower bowler on the squad.
