CSK vs DC Match Preview

CSK will once again depend on Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad to give them a good start here. Both have been pretty consistent throughout this season and are the top 2 run-getters for CSK. The power game that Gaikwad has added to his game has elevated it to a completely new level and we think it is just a matter of time before he is a first-choice opener for India.

The team has a pretty strong middle order as Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane are both in good touch. Both of these players have been used very well by Dhoni. He uses Dube to take down spin with a clear mandate to hit sixes while Rahane is used when the ball is still hard to take down fast-bowlers.

However, Ambati Rayudu has struggled a bit and hasn’t been able to play a big inning yet. MS Dhoni too hasn’t got too many chances to showcase his skills as he bats way down the order. Although, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali do add depth to the batting.

This CSK team has reinvented itself to be a strong batting team and would prefer the flat tracks that Chepauk was offering up early in IPL 2023.

The seamers did an excellent job of containing the in-form Mumbai batting line-up in the last match and will be looking to keep up the good work. Tushar Deshpande is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the season with 19 wickets. He had received good support from Matheesha Pathirana, who is shaping up to be a good death bowler.

Deepak Chahar is likely to start the attack with the new ball, while Jadeja and Moeen Ali will fill in during the middle overs.

While David Warner remains the main batsman in the Delhi Capitals line-up, Phil Salt and Aman Hakim Khan scored some important runs in the last few matches, taking some of the weight off his skipper’s shoulders. It was great to see Warner play with freedom in the previous match and we hope to see that continue now that he has some trust in the players around him.

Salt is proven match-winner and will either score big runs or get out cheaply.

Rilee Rossouw and Mitch Marsh looked fluent in the previous match but the surface in Chepauk could certainly test them. They will fancy themselves against the CSK fast-bowlers but the spinners could prove difficult to get away.

The Capitals have two good all-rounders in the form of Mitchell Marsh and Axar Patel. The latter has been particularly impressive with the bat this season and gives depth to the batting. His bowling is going to be very crucial in this contest as well.

The seamers, Anrich Nortje and Mukesh Kumar have bowled well in patches, while the return of Ishant Sharma has added plenty of experience, and he will play an important role here, especially at the death. Nortje has left the IPL for some personal reasons and is unlikely to take further part in the tournament.

Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have been quite economical and have picked up 15 wickets between them.

Weather Report

The weather is likely to be warm and humid with temperatures remaining over the 30-degree mark.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Chepauk Stadium is good to bat on and has already hosted a few high-scoring games this season. The surface is hard and flat, and the batsmen will enjoy playing their shots. The most recent match played there between MI and CSK was a bit different. It started off as being tough to score on and then got better in the second half.
