CK vs NK Match Preview

Canterbury Kings started their campaign with a spectacular win but have been pretty inconsistent thereafter. Although they are placed at the top of the table, it’s more because of the quantum of wins they have posted rather than the number of wins. They have lost two matches from a total of five and will want to be more consistent going forward. They have a decent side on paper that can take care of even the best in the business. If they can play to their potential here, the Northern Districts will have their work cut out.

Northern Districts are one of the most watchable teams in the Kiwi domestic circuit but more often than not, they do not have their full-strength side available at their disposal. It’s still the same with them but they have done pretty well with the team they have. The likes of Tim Seifert and Jeet Raval add stability to the top, without taking any firepower away. Their bowling looks pretty good too and would be a factor on this surface at Christchurch. It would all depend on how their batsmen perform against the Kings’ bowlers and if they can keep the wickets intact for the first fifteen overs, they will be in business big time.

Weather Report

With some rain in the air and temperatures not really soaring, it would be a dream wicket to bowl at for the quicker bowlers. The DLS method might come into the picture, but we do not expect the match to last the entire hundred overs anyway. There will be plenty of assistance for the bowlers early in the morning and both skippers would want to fully utilize that. Keeping that into consideration, expect the captain winning the toss to elect to field first.

Pitch Report

Unlike the rest of the tournament, we have more seen low-scoring matches take place here at Christchurch. While the boundaries are short and offer plenty for the batsmen, the surface and the conditions offer plenty for the bowlers to move the ball in the air and off the surface. Facing the new ball can be challenging here and that is apparent by the kind of totals teams have put batting first here in recent matches. Spinners, however, are unlikely to play a big part here. The weather is expected to be rainy, adding some more advantage to the bowlers. If the team batting first is able to put in anything over 200, they should consider that a job well done.

Team News

Both sides are coming into this match after a fair bit of rest and there aren’t any injury related scares from any of these camps. Barring performance-based changes, which we don’t think there will be, we expect no changes from either side. Expect the same team to play here.
