BAN vs AFG Match Preview

The abrupt retirement of Tamim Iqbal, their most experienced batsman, in the middle of the tournament hasn’t helped either. Mohammad Naim replaced him at the top of the order and opened the batting with stand-in skipper Litton Das in the previous match, but wasn’t too impressive.

There is now added responsibility on middle-order batsmen Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, and Mushfiqur Rahim to score runs. All-rounders Afif Hossain, Shakib Al-Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz add depth to the batting but neither of them have been able to get going with the bat.

Shakib however has done well with the ball and will once again play an important role here. Hasan Mahmud and Mustafizur Rahman will spearhead the pace attack, with Ebadot Hossain and Mehidy Hasan chipping in during the middle overs.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran are in scintillating form.

The duo put up a 256-run opening stand in the last match, which is the highest-ever partnership for Afghanistan for any wicket, to set the stage for the team to reach a massive total. The middle order did face a mini collapse as the likes of Rahmat Shah, Shahidi, as well as Najibullah Zadran fell cheaply.

However, the visitors do bat quite deep thanks to all-rounders like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan. Fazalhaq Farooqi has been brilliant with the new ball and has picked up 3 wickets in both matches so far, while also being very economical. His partner, Azmatullah Omarzai hasn’t been that consistent though.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan have bowled excellent spells too, keeping the pressure on the opposition batsmen during the middle overs.

Weather Report

The skies will remain overcast and there is a forecast of rain, leading to interruptions.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Chattogram is well-balanced, providing equal opportunities to the batsmen as well as the bowlers. There are a few green patches that will help the quicker bowlers, while there are some patches where the ball will grip the surface. However, the batsmen will be able to play their shots once they settle down.
