WI vs IND Team Previews

West Indies

West Indies’ terrible run in the ODI continues as the team was thrashed by the visitors. While the pitch was visibly difficult to bat on, the home team simply lacked the intent to play well and paid the price for their lackluster batting.

Opener Brandon King did get a decent start but failed to convert it into a big inning as he was dismissed for just 17 runs. The same can be said about Alick Athanaze and Shimron Hetmeyer, both of whom fell cheaply. Skipper Shai Hope was the only batsman who showed some sort of resistance and played a gritty knock of 43 runs.

The absence of Johnson Charles was very apparent as the West Indies lacked depth in their batting. The bowlers did a better job compared to the batsmen and will hope to continue with the good momentum. Gudakesh Motie, who is back in the international team after recovering from an injury, was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets. However, with such a low total to defend against a quality batting site, there was nothing much that the bowling attack could do.

The home must now put the loss behind them and come back with a positive frame of mind to try and level the series. Do we think putting money on the West Indies is a good option right now? Not at all. however, you can and should bet against them during in-play betting.

That is perhaps the best way to make some profits in this game. <br />

India

India was clinical in its performance during the 1st ODI, registering its 9th straight win against West Indies. The team will now look to claim the series by putting up another good performance here.

Despite the absence of some of its best white ball seamers, the Indian pace attack put the pressure early on in the 1st inning. Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, and debutant Mukesh Kumar bowled well with the new ball and picked up 1 wicket each.

It was however the spinners who dealt a body blow to the West Indien batting line-up. Ravindra Jadeja ripped through the middle order, while Kuldeep Yadav cleaned up the tail, picking up 4 wickets for just 6 runs. However, it isn’t all good news for the team. India's star-studded batting line-up made a hash of the meager chase, as the likes of Shubhman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya fell cheaply on the tricky wicket.

However, a breezy half-century by Ishan Kishan ensured that the visitors crossed the line with 5 wickets to spare. India experimented by making changes in the batting positions but we hope that they revert to the original order for this match.

India will continue to experiment and so expect some team changes. Also, you should be careful with pre-match individual player markets.

Pitch and Conditions

As seen in the opening match, the pitch at the Kensington Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 240. There is plenty of help for the seamers as well as the spinners. The batsmen will need to settle down before they start playing the big shots.

The weather is expected to remain overcast and there is a forecast for rain.

WI vs IND Betting Tips

Looking at the performance of both teams in the 1st ODI, it is clear that there is only one team to back here and that is India. While the odds being offered are very low, it isn’t worth risking your money by backing the underdogs.

Shai Hope has been the mainstay of the West Indian batting line-up for quite some time now. He has an average of 50.22 in ODIs and has scored 30 or more runs in 6 of his last 8 innings. We are therefore predicting another good inning from him.

Shubham Gill hasn’t been able to replicate his form in the IPL during his international stints. He has been dismissed for under 33 runs in 3 of his last 4 ODI innings and we expect his struggles to continue.

Any player to score a century in the match

    No (2.10)

The pitch at the Kensington Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. While no Indian batsman has been able to score a century here till now, only one batsman from the current West Indies team, Kyle Mayers, has been able to reach 3 digits. We, therefore, feel that it is unlikely that any player will score a century here.
