UAE put up an inspiring performance in the last match as it defeated the visitors by 11 runs. With that win, UAE has a chance of securing a historic series victory against Afghanistan.

Muhammad Waseem and Ajay Lakra were brilliant as an opening pair. The duo put up 72 runs for the opening wicket, with both going on to make individual half-centuries. The form of the middle-order batting remains a concern. Basil Hameed, Aayan Afzal Khan, and Tanish Suri have all struggled to score runs in this series.

Vriitya Aravind scored a half-century in the first T20 and remains the key batsman for UAE in the middle order. Coming to the bowling, Muhammad Jawadullah bowled a terrific spell, picking up 4 wickets for just 26 runs to keep Afghanistan’s batting under check.

He was supported by Junaid Siddiqui, Ali Naseer, and Akif Raja in the seam department. Basil Hameed and Aayan Khan are likely to feature in the spin department. 

Afghanistan

Afghanistan will be very disappointed with the loss on Sunday. They have squandered away an early lead and now face the prospect of a first-ever series loss against the UAE.

Chasing a par target of 167, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai got the team off to a decent start, scoring 47 runs in just over 5 overs. However, the departure of Gurbaz had a cascading effect on the batsmen following him.

Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, and Darwish Rasooli all failed to build up on the start as Afghanistan ultimately fell short of the total.

Mohammad Nabi was the most impressive of the lot as he scored 47 off just 27 deliveries. He will also lead the spin attack alongside Noor Ahmad and Qais Ahmad. The seam attack remains unchanged with Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen Ul-Haq, and Azmatullah Omarzai looking to make some early inroads with the new ball.
