Surrey

Surrey made a strong start to its campaign but has lost some of the steam in the last week. They have lost 3 of the last 4 matches, and have 16 points against their name. Nevertheless, the team has done enough to be in second place on the South Group table and has a good NRR too.

A win here will see them through to the quarterfinals.

The opening pair of Will Jacks and Laurie Evans has done an excellent job for the team throughout this season and are the top two run-getters for Surrey. Sam Curran has played a vital role with the bat as well as the ball, scoring 371 runs and picking up 14 wickets.

However, the other batsmen haven’t been up to the task and that has been one of the key reasons for the team’s poor run in the last few matches. Players like Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and Sean Abbott will need to step up their game if Surrey wants to get back to winning ways.

Coming to the bowling, spinners Sunil Narine and Will Jacks have bowled well to pick up 29 wickets between them. The seam attack is made up of Chris Jordan, Sean Abbott, Sam Curran, and Gus Atkinson. All of them have given away runs at more than 8 runs per over and will need to be more disciplined with their line and length. 

Essex

Just like their opponents, Essex too has seen a sudden dip in form and has lost each of their last 4 matches. They are currently 5th on the table and a loss here will eliminate them. However, if they do win, they will be fighting with a few other teams, including Surrey, for a place in the quarterfinals.

All-rounders Daniel Sams and Matthew Critchley have played a major role in whatever success the team has achieved so far.

Sams is the leading run-scorer as well as the leading wicket-taker for the team, while Critchley is close behind him in terms of number of wickets. In addition to Sams, Essex has quite a few in-form batsmen, including Michael Pepper, Paul Walter, Daniel Lawrence, and Feroze Khushi.

The batting will be the key for Essex here, especially as they face an under-confident seam attack of Surrey. Daniel Sams will be assisted by Aaron Beard, Shane Snater, and Sam Cook in the pace attack, while the spin department will feature Simon Harmer and Critchley.
