Sunrisers Eastern Cape
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural SA20 final and are back for a challenging title defence. With the backing of the Sunrisers franchise in the Indian Premier League, they will attempt to go back to back in South Africa's newest T20 competition.
The Eastern Cape outfit suffered two injury exits shortly before the start of this season's tournament. They will be without England all-rounder Craig Overton and fast bowler Sisanda Magala. Both have been sidelined by injury. Magala was the team's second-highest wicket-taker last season.
They have also lost their highest wicket-taker, Roelof van der Merwe, who made himself unavailable for this year's tournament. The recruitment of England spinner Liam Dawson could help offset the absence of van der Merwe, while other all-rounders such as local talents Marco Jansen and Patrick Kruger can step up after Magala's exit.
Proteas batter Aiden Markram will captain the team again. He will go into this match and the tournament in general on the back of a sensational Test century in a losing cause to India recently. England trio Dawid Malan, Adam Rossington and Tom Abell will be in support of Markram.

Joburg Super Kings
The Joburg team are family to the six-time IPL title-winning Super Kings franchise. They came within one win of reaching the final of the 2023 SA20 last season, but fell at that hurdle. This time, they'll aim to go a couple better and clinch a maiden title.
Batters Faf du Plessis, Reeza Hendricks and Leus du Plooy were the Joburg Super Kings' top run-scorers last SA20 season. All three have been retained. Du Plessis will captain the team again. Hendricks' global stocks have since risen. Du Plooy now has more experience around the world.
The Super Kings have recruited England all-rounder Moeen Ali. He was going to play for MI Cape Town in last season's SA20, but ultimately opted for the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates. This time, he has stuck with the South African league - and opted for the Super Kings. He is a big asset with bat and ball.
Proteas pair Gerald Coetzee and Nandre Burger are bound to have a big, positive impact with the ball. There is some concern of Coetzee's match fitness, as he was ruled out of the Proteas' Test series decider recently. Perhaps he will sit this match out, placing more onus on Burger to lead the local seam resources and succeed.

Last SA20 season, it produced first-innings scores ranging from approximately 130 to 200. A first-innings score of around 170-plus can be considered competitive here.
Some rain is forecast for Port Elizabeth on Wednesday. This might shorten the fixture, which could suit the team chasing an adjusted target.
