Quetta Gladiators

The Quetta Gladiators had a horrific start to the tournament as they were completely dominated by the Multan Sultans in their opening match. However, they made a strong comeback in their last match to defeat the Karachi Kings and register their first points of the season.

Despite the win, there are some areas where the Gladiators will need to make improvements to win their upcoming matches. The top-order, except for Martin Guptill continues to suffer from a lack of form. Jason Roy and Abdul Bangalzai were both sent out for a duck in the match against the Kings in the first over itself.

At one stage, the Gladiators were 4 wickets down with just 23 on the board and seemed to be heading for another disaster. However, it took a special inning from Martin Guptill, who scored 117 of just 67 deliveries to ensure that the visitors reached a respectable score of 168 in their 20 overs.

During the chase, the bowlers were able to take wickets at regular intervals to ensure that the Kings couldn’t build big partnerships. However, the likes of Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Hasnain have been quite expensive in the two matches played so far and they will be looking to bowl a better line and length here.

Naseem Shah has been in good form and will be looking to play an important role here while the two all-rounders, Iftikhar Ahmed and Odean Smith will be hoping to have a bigger impact on the proceedings. 

Peshawar Zalmi

The Peshawar Zalmi defeated the Karachi Kings in their first match of the season and were the favorites to win their next match against the Sultans. However, they were completely outplayed by some terrific batting from Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Rizwan and ended up facing a heavy defeat.

The two top batsmen from the first match Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Babar Azam were dismissed for single-digit scores and will be looking to turn things around here. Mohammad Haris was solid at the top of the order as he scored a quick-fire 40 but was unlucky to get run out just when he looked set to play a big inning.

Saim Ayub too played well to score his first half-century of the season, albeit for a losing cause. Rovman Powell, who was brought in as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan appears to be in good form and can play the role of a perfect finisher for Peshawar. The team will need to work hard in the bowling as they have given away 197 and 210 runs in the two matches played so far, putting a lot of burden on the batsmen.

The seamers, including Wahab Riaz, Khurram Shahzad, and Salman Irshad have economy rates of more than 9.50 runs per over, while the only full-time spinner, Sufiyan Muqeem has managed to pick up just 1 wicket in the 2 matches.
